About Me

CURRENT MISSION

- To live life honestly while connecting with good people and learning from every experience

ABOUT ME

I am 37 years old, originally from Malta but living in London since May 2011. I am cheerful, friendly, loyal, clean and a non-smoker.

I work in a cancer support and research charity. My job involves providing support to people with a cancer diagnosis via digital media, eg social media and our peer-to-peer support Forum.

Between December 2012 and May 2013 I backpacked all over Australia and then some cities in the USA. I couchsurfed extensively because I wanted to meet local people, share experiences and learn from my hosts. I met some wonderful people couchsurfing.

I am afraid I cannot host people I don't already know, as I live in a shared flat in London. I hope to be able to host in the future. In the meantime I can provide advice to travellers in London (and Malta).

I am educated to an MA level and speak fluent English, Italian and Maltese together with conversational French and Spanish.

I spent the summer of 2005 working in Slovakia on a University traineeship. I traveled all over Slovakia and loved many things about the country: its food, its culture, its sights and sounds, and most certainly its people. I can still remember the Slovak national anthem by heart even though I'm unsure what I'd be singing!

I am very passionate about equality and diversity. For many years I was actively involved in the gay rights movement in Malta.

When I was couchsurfing in the Australian desert in December 2012, my 67 year old CS host asked if I had a girlfriend in London. When I told her I was a gay rights activist she punched the air, said 'Good on you for going out there and doing what you believe in!', and came over to give me a hug. I had tears of joy in my eyes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate by being part of a global community of travellers who are willing to experience the genuine local vibe, learn about local customs, cuisines and cultures and taking these experiences with me to help me be a better, more understanding person.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couchsurfed in eight countries, spread over five continents: in Singapore, all over Australia, in the USA, in Amsterdam and Berlin, and in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. You can read some references below.

I sing praises of couchsurfing every day, and a colleague at work signed up to become a host because of what I told her about my experiences.

I am still in touch on an almost daily basis with two CSers who hosted me in Australia in 2012/2013. I have met one of them in London and he even visited my family home and stayed with my parents in Malta in November 2015. I have made life-long friends on Couchsurfing.

I look forward to connecting with people from all over the world via this website, and one day in the future I hope to be able to return the favour to other travellers.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love books and used to volunteer at a charity bookshop in London, where profits went to organisations that work with people with HIV.

I love musicals, with my favourite being Les Miserables. I have been known to burst into sudden renditions of 'One day more' and 'Do you hear the people sing?' but I promise to control my urge to do so when in your home or presence.

After having fallen in love with the ukulele at my couchsurfing host's home in Singapore, I bought one in London. I now attend ukulele jams around London every Monday and enjoy it a great deal. All thanks to Couchsurfing!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

- spent 5 months travelling all over wonderful Australia between December 2012 and May 2013 (including a day at the Great Ocean Road with my CS host in Melbourne; 3 days camping around Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park in central Australia; 3 days camping in Wilsons Promontory in Victoria)

- criss-crossed Australia by long-distance trains (The Indian Pacific from west to east, then The Ghan from north to south)

- watched a handball semi-final match at Olympics 2012 and went to the Olympic Stadium twice during Paralympics 2012. Breathtaking atmosphere and unforgettable experience.

- spent 10 days traveling Rome - Florence - Venice - Milan with a friend in 2008.

- rock climbed in Manínska Tiesňava in Western Slovakia in 2005.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can teach you basic words in Maltese, tell you about life in London, Malta and Australia, show you photos of my 38 hand-painted flags, sing with you through many songs from musicals and The Dubliners (only if you want to!), teach you basic ukulele chords.
