About Me

Preparing for Bike 50 at 50!! Starting Oct 31, 2011, I'll be visiting 50 states in 50 weeks with Max the weimaraner . . . by bike!! 20,000 miles in all kinds of weather. And along the way, I hope to raise funds for a few different chairty organizations.

I've spent most of the last 20 years away (Europe, Kenya, Mexico)from my home, family and old friends. I'm looking forward to being a bit closer now.

Even at this stage of my life, I still have wanderlust. There are so many amazing things to do and see in this life - I hope I find enough time and energy to get to most of them.

When I was in my teens, I read a novel in which the main character was driven by something his father told him: "Make your mark!" I always took that to mean, "make a positive impact". I guess I've always tried to achieve that.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

In two ways: 1) I'll be surfing for a whole year! and 2) Every time I mention my adventure, I include CS in the explanation! Given that I'm here in Mexico, I have to spell out the website address - people hear "coach" instead of "couch". Once they understand the concept, they're enthralled by the idea!

None yet . . . can't wait!! . . . well, actually, that's not true. Before the CS Project ever existed, I guess I was couchsurfing all the time. Back in the 80's and 90's, when I was in my 20's and 30's, I saw most of Europe as a hitchhiker. So many of those people who stopped to give me a ride would also invite me home for a meal and a place to sleep. So many amazing stories to tell!!

Triathlon, reading, family, traveling, teaching others, my business, music, waterskiing, learning languages, my dog Max, planning my adventure . . . these are just some of the things that I enjoy.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: John Irving, Ayn Rand, Richard Russo
Music: a bit of almost everything. Even tried to enjoy opera, but just didn't happen.
Movies: Meet Joe Black, 7 Pounds, Avatar, Across the Universe

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

If I can only mention one, I guess it would have to be working and participating in the 1992 Winter Olympics as a translater for the U.S. Ski team in Albertville, France.

Teach, Learn, Share

Languages - I've helped people learn English, French and Spanish and people have helped me learn these same languages as well as a few others.

Strategic Planning and Re-engineering . . . it's my "job" and I really enjoy organizing structures and making things work better and more efficiently.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, France, Germany, Gibraltar, United Kingdom, Virgin Islands, British
