About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To grow myself, and grow my community by giving back to it.

ABOUT ME

I grew up in a rural community outside of Victoria, BC. I have a huge passion for new experiences, becoming involved and integrated into new cultures, and living life!
In my 'normal' life, I am an employee of Hub City Cycles Community Co-op; saving the 'lives' of bikes day by day through refurbishing them, fixing them, and teaching others how to fix them. I also build bicycle frames!

I currently live with my girlfriend of 10 years, and my two teenage step-sons in Nanaimo, BC, Canada.

I speak English, some French, some Spanish.

PHILOSOPHY

I feel that we can watch and learn from our mistakes, and grow through having fun and pushing through our boundaries.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I participate in CS by hosting, and by creating amazing, memorable experiences for those who chose to host me, and for those I host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We host as many people as we can in Nanaimo. I have couch-surfed in Central America, and in Eastern Europe. It has always ended up in an incredible experience. I love being able to participate in a local culture by staying with folks who live there. Whenever I can I try to find local volunteer organizations to connect with.

Interests

I love the ocean, bikes, camping, singing, music, mountains, animals, people, good food, and bad jokes.

I love bicycle touring, and have been to many different countries on a bike.
I love mountain biking, and race whenever possible while at home.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Bicycled by myself from Guatemala to Panama!

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy teaching.
I am professional bike mechanics instructor, and have been teaching for about 20 years. I also love to teach math.
I enjoy learning. Through starting my own business building bicycle frames, Ive had to teach myself how to fabricate with metal, weld, paint, you name it.
I am happy to share what I know, and even happier to learn about what others know, how they live, and what matters to them. In order to become fully ourselves we have to grow through all the obstacles within ourselves that keep us from being true, strong, and courageous.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook, although Im not an expert.
I am happy to clean (I am the 'dishwashing machine' for my household, much to my chagrin.)
I am good at building things out of wood or steel. I have a knack for fixing pretty much anything that can break.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Hungary, Nicaragua, Panama, Serbia, Slovenia, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Canada, Guatemala, Serbia
