About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Providing oversight care for my wife of 52 years now in a nursing home while also attempting to develop a new life for myself as a writer.

ABOUT ME

After college education in Syracuse, New York and Brisbane, Australia (Fulbright Scholarship at Queensland Uni), was editor and reporter, columnist for New York Times and Washington Post (20 years), a corporate vice president in D.C. for an electric utility business, and an executive for the public hospital and health system in D.C. I retired a decade ago and moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to be near the oldest of my three sons and became a fulltime caretaker for my progressively ill wife (Parkinson's Disease), who had to be moved to a nursing home in the spring of 2012 because of the need for 24-hour professional care. I visit her daily and oversee her care while attempting to learn all about living alone and establishing a new writing career. I am a gay male.

PHILOSOPHY

Live for today and exert the best that's in you every hour to be happy and help others. At least try! Expect to fail a lot. Seek minimalism for your future and work at getting rid of the baggage from your earlier years. Let other people enjoy their lives without your judgments inhibiting them. Support good government and help promote its necessary assistance to so many persons who are among the less fortunate among us.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am on the board of directors and treasurer of my condominium association. I regularly help in food delivery by a Roman Catholic Church to poor Cleveland residents (I am not a religious person). I am a member of several gay man's discussion and/or activity groups.

Interests

I enjoy many musical genres and go to concerts -- symphony, rock/pop bands and singers, country music. Favorites include Todd Rundgren, Kenny Chesney, Cleveland Symphony, Green Day, Killers, Springsteen. Also visit museums for art exhibits and history collections. I like watching sports -- baseball, basketball, football. I read newspapers (subscribe to 3 dailies) and magazines (subscribe to Rolling Stone, Time, Nylon, Sports Illustrated, New Yorker and more), and a lot of books. I like to hike in the woods, walk my dog. Love going swimming when it's warm (naked, where possible).
