About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I'm on a mission to grow, learn and see. I love meeting new people, seeing new sights, sharing stories, laughing and getting a more personal experience when I do travel.

ABOUT ME

I'm an Oakland native and I love calling the Bay Area my home, but I have always been intrigued by travel. Whether camping, backpacking, taking a road trip or flying to a new country I equally enjoy virtually all forms of traveling.

I love culture, diversity, music, food, nature and good company. I have a mellow demeanor and don't take life too seriously. I have a dry sense of humor and know how to laugh at myself. I'm appreciative, helpful and a good listener. I love to work with my hands and build/fix things. I'm somewhat introverted and introspective but still enjoy meeting new people and sharing good conversations.

I come from close knit family and value my friends and family greatly.

I'm politically progressive, lefty, but I am truly open minded and don't mind talking about pretty much any topic.

PHILOSOPHY

Take life as it comes and choose to have a positive outlook on what is given to me. Don't spend time worrying about what you cannot control. Don't waste your energy being angry or bitter. Try to enjoy the moment.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm looking to surf and meet folks, and once I have a space that can accommodate others I will host as well. But as of right now only surfing.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

To this point I've only surfed with friends and family while traveling or being between housing. While in Germany I stayed with a distant relative whom I had never met before and got a great insiders look at the tiny North German town that he lived in. We ate meals together, took walks and conversed. It was a fantastic experience.

Interests

Hiking, the outdoors, vintage things, old cars, tinkering, building, welding, metal work, music, social justice, dancing to fun music, food, new experiences

Music, Movies & Books

Music: Jazz, Motown, R&B, Hip Hop, Dub Step, World, 80s, 90s, classic rock. Stevie Wonder is a hero. I have broad musical taste from Florence and the Machine to Paul Simon.

Books, Roald Dahl, Bill Bryson, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Haruki Murakami

Movies, Rear Window, Talented Mr. Rippley, Space Balls

One Amazing Thing I've Done

I went looking for my family in Northern Germany in 2005 and stumbled upon my great aunt and several other relatives who showed me the house where my grand father was born, the school that he attended and the church that he went to. These people that I had never met before treated me like close family. It was a powerful experience.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have extensive knowledge about classic cars and car repair. I have good knowledge of Oakland and the sites and history of the area.
