COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have slept on couches and floors, lived out of bags and suitcases, shipped my life in boxes ahead of me across continents as I followed by train, leapt blindly into chance and every time found myself landing exactly where I was meant to be.

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES: Japanese Cinema, Godard, Abbas Kiarostami, Oliver Stone, Kubrick, American Cinema of the '70s.
MUSIC: my early childhood was spent tagging along behind dispossessed fans of punk and new wave. I am drawn to words and hold Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Will Oldham, The Pogues and The Smiths in high regard. When I want music to create space for me, I reach for Spiritualized, Ninjatune label artists, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Sunn 0))), dub reggae, '70s Afrika, Wu-Tang, Toru Takemitsu, Ryuichi Sakamoto. But anything decent, really.
BOOKS: continental philosophy, situationist international, post-stucturalism and so on; 'magical reality'--Joyce, Haruki Murakami, Gabriel García Márquez, Milan Kundera; coming-of-age novels, poetry...I usually have three or four books going at once.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

. . . and I lived to tell about it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've worked as a photographer, as a lighting technician in theater, as an ESL instructor and as a card-carrying member of a labor union. I have been a student of judo, jujitsu, modern arnis / eskrima, yoga and meditation. In all things I consider myself a work in progress but am happy to share whatever I've picked up along the way. I am interested in language-exchange, skill-sharing, and am a firm believer in the DIY ethos.

Countries I’ve Visited

China, Italy, Russian Federation

Countries I’ve Lived In
