About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to understand the world to the fullest extent possible, in order to most positively affect it

ABOUT ME

I am generally a quiet and quite laid back person, and would much rather listen than talk in most situations, discussions of policy and the meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything excluded. More below.

PHILOSOPHY

Still under development, but a few quotes to give you a rough idea of where we are so far:

-"We don't have to save the world. The world is big enough to look after itself. What we have to be concerned about is whether or not the world we live in will be capable of sustaining us in it."

and

-"A thing is right when it tends to preserve the integrity, stability and beauty of the biotic community. It is wrong when it tends otherwise."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am completely new to couchsurfing, so my participation has not been extensive, but I did pay the $25.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

none yet, but looking forward to having some

Interests

I love to sail, swim, read, listen to and play music, talk to people, learn things, explore, eat, drink (and cook a bit), make new friends and build relationships, and generally just try to save the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

Not a huge movie buff, but I did see Firefly: Serenity the other day and I enjoyed the heck out of that.

I like most things that can be legitimately called music, off the top of my head: John Hiatt, Jimmy Buffett, K'naan, Keb' Mo, The Band, Frank Foster, Old Crow Medicine Show, Frank Sinatra, Robert Plant & Allison Krauss.

I like both books that make me think and just plain good stories; I often struggle struggle to appreciate "classics". The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (whole series), Walden, A Sand County Almanac, and Three Cups of Tea should be required reading to pass life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I grew up in the midst of incredibly good and caring people, and I've come to realize how amazing that is since I've been away. I have also seen the middle of Lake Huron on a night so clear and calm thats it's impossible to tell where the stars in the sky end and the stars in the water begin.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've taught sailing formally for four years, and many more informally with family and friends. Swimming much the same.
I would really like to learn how to use a camera.
