À propos de moi

CURRENT MISSION

I don't believe 'mission' gets at the heart of what I am doing.

ABOUT ME

The Sartrean in me doesn't like this section, but I will attempt it regardless. (It must be added for those critical readers that I-statements are simply used for convenience).

After reading this I realized this paragraph was very tangential, so feel free to skip it if wanting an express version. Not knowing myself on any sort of extended or continuous interval, I would be surprised if even my best friends had anything close to a complete knowledge of me. Furthering this difficulty of any sort of precise (as opposed to accurate, for I do believe in instances of self-knowing but these instances may be reluctant to find a common denominator) personal description is that I often intentionally rely on the 'implicit' to communicate the underlying meaning or intentions of what I say or do. This is not done for entertainment or out of disrespect, but I try to make people think and avoid restricting their thought and creativity to an idea I've come up with myself; I find other's ideas to be fascinating and even liberating, as they are different from my own. The further reason for implied communication is actually not done out of intention but rather stems from a lack of power. Words, though not restricted to eternal definement, can rarely do justice to those things most important to people. I write these things because thoughts and ideas not finding a foundation in some sort of fixed (and unrealistic) language are subject to metamorphosis, making my ability to define or even create myself to both myself and others through actions and words a seeming impossibility.

With this said, I will try to think of what my friends may say about me. (If there is a lack of adjectives it is because often in their giving of imagery they also take it away). I believe most friends would describe me as funny, laid-back, intelligent, and weird. It is often ironic, though also frustrating, that my obscurity--stemmed through my want for authenticity or even my genuineness itself--is sometimes judged as insincere. While frustrating, I also appreciate these viewpoints as they inspire critical self-reflection. Those who know me a little better may describe me as funny, laid-back, no-so-intelligent, passionate, honest, caring, genuine, and still weird. Although I have often been called philosophical, I don't know how well I like that term.

If it makes a difference, I don't usually talk like how I just wrote; I figured some formality was important because of the comedy and laid-backness is often seen, but some of these other things are also important, I believe. But, believe me, I enjoy a good dance, hike, or cold beer anytime!

PHILOSOPHY

It is my opinion that philosophy is an activity and not some-thing. The important thing is continue communication, continue consideration, and to never stop questioning and creating. Because of this, I have not settled on any single theory of anything.

I've always like this Kierkegaard quote: "To dare is to lose one's footing momentarily. Not to dare is to lose oneself."

Pourquoi je suis sur Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently a college student and don't really have any place for someone to stay, so I presently participate in looking to visit and experience with other couchsurfers and hopefully find some gracious enough to let me stay for a brief time if traveling.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had none yet, but I am looking forward to it!

Centres d'intérêt

The meeting of other people, people different from myself, is very important to, and for, myself. I love getting to know people through questions and deep conversation, but I really feel like I get to know people the best by just being with them and bull-shitting with them.

To go along with this interest, I also enjoy useless things and pointless adventures, anything that will keep me and whoever I am with on their toes and partaking in creativity. Some of other interests include: reading (both good novels and formal philosophy), watching movies, drinking coffee, people watching, the occasional party, thinking (though this is not always 'enjoyable'), outdoor activities (hunting, fishing, camping, etc.), long walks, music, being strange, dancing, joking, and simply laughing.

Morceaux de musique, films et livres

Books: The Plague by Camus, The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky, and 1984 by George Orwell are my favorites but I also read other stuff by Camus and Dostoevsky as well as some Plato, Descartes, Hume, Hegel, Kant, Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Sartre, de Beauvoir, Benjamin, Arendt, Russell, Searle, Noe. Some more novel-based writers include: Orwell, Kafka, Hemingway, Salinger, Heller, Thoreau, Shelley, and others I'm forgetting.

Movies: I like a good funny movie (Jim Carrey films are always enjoyable) as well movies that make me think (Stanley Kubrick's films tend to have this effect).

Music: It depends on my mood and who I'm with, but I think 90s are my favorite (I love some good buzz ballads).

Une aventure extraordinaire que j'ai vécue

I have met many amazing people and have shared amazing time together. However, I believe there are better times and places for reminiscing than right here and now.

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

The unconcealment of Being is out there for all to experience. The key is living passionately, consciously, and with others. I am far less certain than what this statement may suggest, but I figured I'd say something.
