About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Our missions are highly classified. If we told you, we'd have to kill you.

ABOUT ME

Hi guys! Brie here. A few years back I moved to Minnesota for a year, and that was quite the experience... when they say cold, they're not messing around. But I made amazing friends and had a blast! In the end, the school wasn't for me, and I headed to Denver. I really hope to travel to New Zealand sometime in the near future. I'm a big supporter of a non-profit organization called charity:water. They fundraise to build wells in areas lacking clean, safe drinking water, which in turn provides local jobs as well. Currently, I'm raising a black lab/golden retriever mix through an organization called CCI (canine companions for independence) to be a service dog. There's a picture of him somewhere on this profile (how does technology work). Sadly, he won't be coming on the upcoming trips though- he's still just a little guy.

Hey, this is Jake now. I spent my first year of school in Breckenridge, CO majoring in snowboarding and raising foxes. I'm something of a coffee connoisseur, and I'm looking forward to trying different coffee all over the world. My next big move will be to study abroad a semester in Japan. Currently, we're both studying jazz performance (voice/guitar/piano). In our free time we snowboard, cliff jump, camp, drink local beers, bike, preform at open mic nights, long board a bit, get coffee, play uno or gin, write music occasionally, hike, cook - our specialty is a shrimp pesto pasta (we'd be happy to make it for you!), go to concerts, and enjoy hanging out all over Colorado. We love dogs and animals. Especially penguins. Brie is partial to tigers.

We're also heavily involved with a local toffee business called Miss Kelly's Candies. She specilizes in gourmet flavours of the best toffee you'll ever try. Flavors currently in the inventory include- chai tea latte, birthday cake, espresso, habanero orange, candied ginger, sesame wasabi, apple pie, pumpkin spice, and my favorite, pepper pistachio. Seriously, if you can think of a flavor, she can make it.

PHILOSOPHY

Life is about moments. Don't wait for them, create them. And then appreciate them. Write them down. And take pictures. And share them. And acknowledge happiness and sadness and joy and pain. Moments. That's what's up.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

This is a section we're lacking in. While we've traveled a good amount, and also had lots of experience with roommates, close quarters with strangers, and the like, but this is the first time we've tried CS. We're extremely respectful, and considerate, and gracious people, so help us fill this section up with cool stories from your city!

Interests

Traveling (obviously), camping, snowboarding, biking, any aspect of music (making, playing, listening), frisbee, reading, cliff jumping, painting a bit, playing with my black lab, leading a kids choir, relaxing with friends, playing cards or board games, trying restaurants, cooking- especially with avocados and cheese... not necessarily in the same dish... also not no necessarily in the same dish, etc etc etc. Above all, we love trying stuff and and seeing stuff and doing stuff with cool people. Music, Movies, and Books

Movies- Lord of the Rings, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, Braveheart, Mean Girls... says Jake, Spiderman, Captain America, actually all superhero movies...says Brie, Shawshank Redemption, Office Space, Good Will Hunting

Books- Favorite from both of us: East of Eden, also Lord of the Rings, The Book Thief, The Great Gatsby, The Alchemist, anything by CS Lewis, The Art of Racing in the Rain, House of Leaves, A Small Place-Jamaica Kincaid (one of my personal role models, says Jake), Enders Game, and The Fault in our Stars as a newer addition to the list.

Music- So much. So many musics. Jazz, rock, indie, local, yeah... music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Brie: Wow. Big question. I've seen some grandiose displays of nature, and done some pretty thrilling things, but I think it's important to recognize the little things. So the most amazing thing is the anatomy of a the inner ear. I mean, how can we be so intricate and functional?? And then translate wavelengths and frequencies into meaning and emotion and direction and communication. That's amazing.

Jake: The view of the world upsidedown while flipping off something into water or snow. Perspective!
