About Me

I grew up with a sister and a brother in Dortmund. We all loved singing and making music and having guests in our family.
I´m married and have three children, a daughter and two sons, all older than 30 years by now ( Well, time goes by...!) For more than 25 years I have been working as a teacher in a local school, teaching students aged 10 to 18 years.
Now we are living in a nice old house (built in 1911) with 2 other lovely families. It has a little garden in the front and it´s in a western part of Hannover, called Badenstedt. My husband and I like to have guests.
I´m a very curious and lively person , so most times I´m very soon involved in really interesting conversations, hopefully extremly funny, too! I really like to meet people with a good sense of humour. For me, life is very often so strange and bizzare, well, you don´t really need to watch the comedians, just open your eyes and ears!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

On my travels I´ve always met very nice, hospitable, friendly people. Sometimes we changed adresses and could keep in touch for some years. Our children and friends brought new friends and visitors to our house and we always enjoyed the new good spirit this gave to us. It´s very inspiring to learn about other cultures and new ideas.
So I hope to meet many interesting and warm-hearted people on my next journeys and get some first-hand insight of the country . Of course, one important reason for travelling via couchsurfing is keeping up my English ( as an English teacher your language abilities tend to shrink constantly...)

On the other hand I love to be a host myself: My husband and I like to have guests and make them feel at home.

Interests

I love to play guitar, piano, drums and flute (only the recorder...), singing in a choir, playing in a band and dancing. I also love getting to know interesting people and communicating in different languages (sometimes with hands an feet ;-), of course...).
In my free time I also like visiting flea markets, concerts, the theatre, ...
We spend much time in our huge and wild garden, trying to explore new paths through the jungle and having nice picnics, ( sometimes sharing with mice, squirrels, racoons (!) and wasps (:-(( ) My hut in the garden is my castle, where we live comfortably without running water and electricity. I´m not very much of a gardener, but I try to have beautiful plants and flowers with a pleasant smell. My husband is more the survival-character, growing all sorts of fruit and making delicious preserves of all kind. He is the one who cooks at home, but I also like cooking and baking nice cakes.
Well, I could tell you much more, but may be we should rattle on over a nice cup of coffee (of tea) ?

Music, Movies, and Books

"world music", Folk, Funk and Jazz, music with interesting rhythms, like Salsa, Samba and Raggae. And, of course, the "old fashioned" Rock-Music from Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, The Animals, Beatles and Stones, Janis Joplin, but also Joan Armatrading, Adele, Sting, Simon and Garfunkle, Bob Dylan, and , and, and...

I don´t go to the cinema very often, but I like films with a good soundtrack, or grotesk and weird films. Films with a good story, moving me to tears or making me laugh a lot ...
And my favourite books?
All sorts of detective stories, especially Donna Leon´s "Bunetti" stories, "Fräulein Smillas Gespür für Schnee" (internat. titel: Smilla’s Sense of Snow),many books about other countries and cultures like "Mehmet mein Falke" / Ince mehmet or "Grau-Eule",a story about nature by Michail Prischwin. Together with my children I went through most books of Astrid Lindgren, Michael Ende, Paul Maar, Charles Dickens or the Harry Potter books and many others. Also fantastic, literally spoken, was "Die Nebel von Avalon" (engl. titel "The Mists of Avalon"), just to mention a few titles.
Books should have some depth, a very good sense of humour, vivid and well written and they should lead me into another world with ease.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Attending our children, watching them grow up from incredibly helpless to strong, warmhearted and competent people - it´s the best present of life one can get!
