To put one foot in front of the other.
I have not been involved in couch surfing for a bit because my life got a bit insane and it wasn't really going to work but I am back and cannot wait to get active in the community again.
I worked for 8 years in IT doing mapping but now am at a cross roads - I'm taking 9 months off work to travel - in particular to try and hike the Appalachian trail - and then unless I change my mine I'll be starting a Masters in Nursing.
As you can guess from the hike I am doing, I love being out in the middle of nowhere. I also spend too much of my life listening to podcasts and love deep conversations.
Life is too short to not try things you might fail at, because who knows, with a little energon and a lot of luck, you might succeed.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We've travelled here there and everywhere and host.
I've surfed all up the West Coast in the USA and in Canada, Sweden, Finland and surfed a little in Iceland and in Japan with Brendan.
I'm a bit of a nature freak, so I often take far longer than I should do on walks by incessantly taking pictures (only point and shoot so far).
I also love hiking, classical music and many a thing. I love to talk and laugh and learn and drink coffee!
I also grew up with pug dogs and get overly excited whenever I see them. If you could put in your request "pugs are great" that would be super :)
- classical music
- rock climbing
Music, Movies, and Books
Bryony - movies: Stranger than fiction is a favourite of mine as is Tree of Life (the soundtrack blew my mind!), I love most things by Wes Anderson and like anything that's a littler quirky or makes me think.
Music: Zoe Keating, Iiro Rantala, First Aid Kit, Pink Martini, The Mountain Goats
Books: "The Book Thief", "Poisonwood Bible" "Persepolis"
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sun set over the water while drinking wine in the Cinque Terra
Walking (or climbing in some stages) 10km of a certain Great Wall
Gazing over seemingly endless fields of everlasting daises up near Geraldton, WA, Australia and then floated on top of the water while massive manta rays barrel rolled underneath me.
In Iceland, picnicing at Latrabjarg and hiking in Hvervellir and being overwhelmed by the scenery
Being within 50m of a grizzly in Alaska, luckily a bus picked me up before it got even closer!
Spend two weeks hiking in Lapland, covering over 200km! The scenery and midnight sun were the best (and I got more tanned there than I ever had in Australia!!)
Taking a hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti at dawn
Getting to spend an incredible time with a whole family of Gorillas in Rwanda
Teach, Learn, Share
I know random trivia that is rarely helpful but stays in my head nonetheless.
