About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I'm three times as old as the average Couch Surfer, assuming that average is around 24. That fact allows me to call myself semi-retired, which allows more time for travel. I like traveling with my wife of 40 years, and sometimes with good friends.
ABOUT ME
Husband, father, grandfather; appreciative of my good health; reader; foodie; Slow Food member; tree-hugger; lover of music; catch-and-release fisherman; struggling golfer; inveterate volunteer.
PHILOSOPHY
We're facing some very serious problems on this planet - this sanctuary for humans and other life forms - and I'm not optimistic about the outcome. I am generally in agreement with Paul Chefurka (seehttp://www.paulchefurka.ca/ ). Also Barbara Kingsolver. They have stated things better than I can.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Lots to learn about CS. My wife is on board, but tentatively.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
No couches used yet, but several meals and coffees enjoyed with locals. What a great concept!

Music, Movies, and Books
All of the above, but in different order: first books, then music, then movies.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I've built and slept in an igloo, in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Will there be enough snow in California for my grandchildren to do that?
Teach, Learn, Share
Always like to get recommendations of a good book. For people of a certain age, I'd recommend "Deaf Sentence" by David Lodge. For others, anything by Nabokov, John Updike, Wendell Berry or Jason Cartwright. Charles Eisenstein is a great thinker and writer.
