ABOUT ME

I'm always open to hearing other people's life-stories, and am too curious for my own good.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm told I have an old soul, and I definitely take that as a compliment. But life has also taught me to remain young at heart. It's so easy for kids to go through their days in complete wonder, always looking for the next adventure and never passing judgement before it is due. I try to take my lessons from both the young and old - the former having hope and curiosity, and the latter having wisdom and patience.

Showing people around my home city, and learning about others' when I'm away from my own.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been couchsurfing for years, but before Couchsurfing.com I never had a name for it. I've grown up with people coming in and out of my house.
I have also had the luck of being welcomed into many people's places - and notice a huge difference in staying in a home versus staying in a hotel. While I am grateful for both settings, the first always seems to give my travels a much more profound meaning.

兴趣

I have recently gotten into running long distance (currently training for my first marathon), which keeps me on my toes.

On planes, trains and automobiles, I pass time by knitting. I've recently tried my hand at sewing.

Other than that, I go sailing whenever I can to clear my mind and spend too much time trying to come up with ways to travel more.

I also try to spend a lot of time volunteering, whether in a community garden or in an after-school program in need of mentors. The most awe inspiring moments have always been connecting with people of all sorts of backgrounds on a very real and very human level. There's something profound about a personal connection with a stranger that reminds me to take time to meet people face to face.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Two years ago, I climbed Croagh Patrick in Co. Mayo on the Westcoast of Ireland. After getting to the top (having lagged far behind my friend from New Zealand - who had the mountain climbing advantage over me), we looked over the blue shine of the port to our left and the blanket of green over the hills to our right. The sky was spotted with clouds, which dotted the landscape with their shadows.
