ABOUT ME

Hi, I am a first generation Chicana feminist by way of Mexico. I am currently in graduate school working on a PhD in environmental studies. I am a vegan and environmental justice/food justice activist, with deep roots in the San Diego-Tijuana borderlands. I live in a small house in San Diego, CA. I like to spend my time reading, riding my bike, making cool stuff and playing the bass with my band.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Our home has hosted various couchsurfers! I have been hosted around Europe, and have also met up with couchsurfers to walk around and get to know other cities.

Interests

I am a graduate student in environmental studies. I love reading about feminism, decolonial and critical race theory. I love to ride my bike, watch funny movies, talk politics and eat good vegan food.

Music, Movies, and Books

I am in a Chican@ punk rock band with two of my great friends, called the Nepantler@s. We have political lyrics, music you can dance to, and lots of fun as well.

I am a big fan of crust punk music, as well as some street punk. I listen to cumbia, bachata and banda pretty frequently. I also enjoy my doses of Lauryn Hill and political hip hop at times.

In terms of movies, I am a sucker for comedies. I like silly movies like Knocked Up, am addicted to the Fast and the Furious series (I know, I know) and enjoy most documentaries. My favorite love movie of all time is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and after that is Amarte Duele.

Books? Damn! I have too many!! I love Playing with Fire by the Sangtin Writers and Richa Nagar, Medicine Stories, Remedios and anything by Aurora Levins Morales, I just started reading Chicana Codex of Consciousness by Cherrie Moraga.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some spanish, how to sew, how to bind notebooks with recycled paper, make delicious mexican vegan food, make scrapbooks, and make earrings.

I can also, um, theorize with you! hehe

I would love to learn other languages, possibly learn how to screenprint, make stamps, some more bike maintenance stuff, or how to cook some good food.
