I want to see the world, but at a deeper level than the tourist track. I want to try new things on for size and meet people who have different stories than me.
Though I'm originally from the South in the US, after living in California for 10 years and traveling around the world, my Southern accent is pretty diluted. I still retain the southern hospitality and politeness though. Try me- you'll find me sweet as pie. I currently live in San Francisco and work as a planetarium presenter, dinosaur educator, art exhibit tour guide and wilderness adventure summer camp director. I'm a curious person who enjoys meeting new people, exploring new places and learning new things. When I'm not at work I like to cook, read, make beer, go to art exhibits, plays, and find fun, quirky things in my city or further afield. Right now I am traveling around the world on my own, and loving it.
Trying new things, visiting new places, eating new foods... I'm an adventurer at heart.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am brand new to Couch Surfing! Help introduce me to this community, please.
I have this brilliant talent that I can sleep anywhere. I guess it comes from years of leading camping trips with kids. One of my favorite couch surfing adventures was a home-stay I did in Cambodia. I only knew enough Khmer to be polite, but that didn't stop me from jumping in to the card game my hosts were playing and learning the rules by observation. Much to my hosts' surprise, I turned out to be really good! It was a great way for us to relate to each other.
I love to learn how to make new things in the kitchen, and have experimented with brewing beer and exploring new recipes. I would choose a good book over the TV any day. I really enjoy going to the movie theater over watching things at home. My weakness is action movies, though I also love thoughtful or quirky independent films. I am a consumer of music, not a maker, but I love it. And my soul feels most at home when outside. My favorite activity in all the world is a good conversation over a drink or a bite to eat.
Music, Movies, and Books
I'll pretty much read anything that someone says is their favorite. It's turning out to be a good journey. Though I say this about others, I have a hard time pinning down MY favorites. If I had to choose, I would say that my fav book is the Peacock Emperor Moth, my favorite musician is Nina Simone and my favorite movie is The Fall. Ask me tomorrow, and it may be different.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I am currently traveling around the world by my self for the second time. It's a super exciting adventure and I feel very fortunate to get to see the world in this way.
Teach, Learn, Share
I know how to make my grandma's angel biscuits - a true southern family recipe. I work at a planetarium, so I know the stars in the northern hemisphere passingly well and can take you on a journey through the night sky. I like to pretend that I can read fortunes, but it's all just a party trick. I know a lot of games from working at camps for so long.
