About Me

Single, Vegan, animal rights supporter

Single, Vegan, animal rights supporter, Sci-fi fan, like rock music, soul, blues etc. Ride bicycle around central Portland. Type-2 diabetic, like red wine.

Extreme left wing socialist for domestic issues; dislikes capitalism; strongly progressive on social issues; a foreign policy hawk...military intervention to overthrow dictators and support freedom and human rights is a good thing.

Be happy, be free....Humans and animals are connected by a life force. I have no interest in established or organized religions.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I enjoy socializing with people from diverse backgrounds at the local CS events.

Only attending local events. I live in a small apartment and do not even have a couch. Trying to recover after financial disasters. I grew up commuting between UK and middle East, my late father worked for BP oil, we spent a lot of time in Iraq (1956 - 1967 - Kirkuk, Haditha) and some in Libya (Tobruk, 1967 - 1970). Visited Lebanon for a couple weekends. Was educated mostly in UK. Traveled mostly around western Europe, Iceland, Australia, Costa Rica, Mexcio. Moved to Germany in 1984. Moved to USA in 1987.

I have answers to many of the world's worst problems -- but no resources to implement them.

In 1968 I read about Solar Power Satellites .. THE solution. In 1976 heard about Gerard O'Neill so read the High Frontier, yes, a plan which makes sense. For the last 30 years worked for the original O'Neill vision added a lunar elevator. Joined L-5 Society in 1979. He was a regional director of the National Space Society (NSS) from 1994-5 and operated an NSS computer bulletin board on Fidonet from 1990 through 1992. He has been active in the following NSS Chapters: Ventura County (CA), Cuyahoga Valley Space Society (OH), Oregon-L5; as well as active in the California Space Development Council and Midwest Space Development Corporation. He served a 2- year term as a director of the Moon Society, and later a 2-year term as its Vice President. In 2010 he became Vice President of Leeward Space Foundation, for PR and Programs.
He has written extensively on space based solar power, e.g. in the 2009 McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science. He was a contributor to the 2007 Department of Defense study on Space Based Solar Power managed by the National Space Security Office. In 2008 he managed a project by the Moon Society to build 1W desktop microwave power beamer, obtained the first ever FCC license for operation of power beaming device in a public place.

- proposals for lunar space missions for the 1990 Space Exploration Initiative.
