Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As far as couchsurfing off of the website I have not had much success or experience. Just wrong timing is what that comes down to. I have on the other hand gone on a hitchhiking tour around the country and have had many generous self travelers offer a couch for the night. So many memorable faces and places I can never repay all those kind hearted souls for what they shared with me. Most memorable couchsurfing experience was 2 summers ago on the PCH 1 heading to Monterey. My companion and I were at the beginning as the sunny started to fall behind the tree tops. Sitting road side thumb in the direction of north. A car finally pulls over to pick up our travelling bones. Open the door, "where ya headed?" asked the middle aged lax woman driver and her very knowledgeable experienced open-minded 20 something daughter in the passenger seat. "As far as we can get to, somewhere to camp preferable." The thing about California in July is that it gets really foggy and damp in the evenings dew to the ocean on one side and a mountain range on the other. So we hop in and down the dusty trail we go. As we're talking and getting to know each other a bit. They find that we do not necessarily have the funds it would take for a hostel in that area. They quickly without hesitation offered their extra space for us to rest our weary bones for the night as it has been well into our trip by this point. They graciously took us into their home gave us a warm bed and a hot shower with a side of some of the best ever tasting veggie lasagna. The next day the woman's son, who also was just as welcoming, took us up the 1 about 6 hours all the way to Monterey and even showed us a few things along the way. I will forever remember this experience, this crossing of paths, in such a small world.
