Music, Movies, and Books

i honestly love music. haha ive loved and explored so many genres of music, from the many famous classical pieces of Beethoven to the legacies of jazz legends Dave Brubeck and Coltrane - and definitely not forgetting my favourite bands, The Strokes, Radiohead, Mutemath, and so much more. i can talk about music all day haha, and definitely would appreciate any kind of music, so just feel free to rant to me about that lousy album or that awesome song you've always loved. i just believe that music that is rather mainstream and palatable to the masses may not have the meaning and impact music can really bring! \m/

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i think one moment that struck me badly about the world was in Cambodia, where I was a team leader for my college community service expedition. One day my friend and I spotted a young boy clad in a soiled red shirt dragging a sag of plastic bottles and cans, probably collecting them for perhaps his daily meal. Using some poorly constructed Khmer I tried to pick up over there, had a small conversation with him and learned he was only about five to six years old. Looking closely, I saw his fingernails all soiled with blood, his face and arms all decked with dirt, while his torn trousers covered up some of the wounds on his knees. Definitely at this moment my heart started to ache badly - I've never seen poverty like this before and this definitely inspired me and fired up this drive in me to give back whenever possible.

On a side note I argued with my teacher when he found out I wanted to offer the boy some food and money. The confrontation then suddenly turned into a situation where he started crying while realizing that he saw his young self in me at that very moment - I realized that he meant good in the fact that the help we should give should definitely self sustaining, fully understanding and informed - rather than just a blatant offering of monetary help. I just hope that in exploring the world, I would explore both myself and all the people around me in the hope of giving back as much as i can. (:
