About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Community. Education. Restoration. Fun.

ABOUT ME

I'm currently a grad student in environmental science and management at Duquesne University.

I love places, the natural sciences, photography, and sharing life with others. I'm rarely in a rush, sometimes to a fault. I've got far more questions than answers, and I spend a lot of time thinking about how I want to live. Given the opportunity to relax and converse or to party, I'll pick the former four times out of five.

PHILOSOPHY

Progress not perfection. I try my best to be quick to listen and slow to speak. I also try my best to cultivate unity with others and to focus more on things that bring us together than on things that could potentially drive us apart.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Namely as a guest; I can't wait to be in a position to host!

Interests

The natural world. I love understanding it, experiencing it, and conveying its beauty and value to others. Photography is integral in all three of these things. Other interests include reading, running, writing, and learning about YOU!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Aldo Leopold's "A Sand County Almanac" is one of my favs. I also highly recommend Chaim Potok's "My Name is Asher Lev," especially for anyone who likes thinking about art. For anyone remotely interested in science (no background required), pick up anything written by David Quammen.

Movies: nothing specific, but documentaries are my favorite genre.

Music: I tend to enjoy most alt/indie/electric music. Recently, Fleet Foxes, Sigur Rós, Youth Lagoon, and Moby have been my go-to. And Sylvan Esso.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two friends and I left at 12:30 am for a 13 km hike to the highest point in Panama, Volcan Barú. We arrived in time to watch sunrise. On the way up, the stars were spectacular, and at the top, sunrise was surreal... the color, the clouds, the cold and wind; both the Pacific and the Caribbean oceans in view.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach me what you know. Tell me what you want your life to say to the world.

As far as what I can teach... I honesty don't know.... These are the kinds of things that come out in conversation. I'm knowledgable on a random assortment of scientific topics. I do love photography, and I can at least teach some of the technical aspects, and maybe some of the aesthetic.
