"Why travel at all?
Home is where the stuff is.
It's where, without realizing it, I had settled into routines, from working to eating to computer time.
Travel is everything unknown, everything out of rhythm.
(It's the total kindness of strangers.)
But travel is exhilarating for the very same reasons.
Freed of routines, I am forced to give up the illusion of control.
When I drop my guard, well, that's when the magic happens."
