About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Explore the world, explore myself, improve myself, improve the world.
ABOUT ME
I'm a pretty quite person, but I try to push myself to be more outgoing because I find I enjoy myself more when I do. I'm a pretty big nerd. My sense of humor is dry, sarcastic, and at times a bit dark. I'm very casual an easy going. I'm not an openly emotional person and tend to keep my feelings to myself. Very rarely do I show negative emotion.
PHILOSOPHY
Do what works. It doesn't matter what political or social connotation it has; efficiency in achieving purpose is paramount. I have an intensely logical view of the world which means I focus on data and have little time for arguments that rely on conventional wisdom. My definition of data is very broad though.
I'm a strong advocate of utilitarianism, though I very often believe that forcing the individual to sacrifice for society is counter productive. I like systems that channel people's natural instincts towards aiding their society. I'm training as an economist to study incentives and how best to structure them for a healthy and just society.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm either living in a dorm or at home with my parents, so I unfortunately cannot offer a couch.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have couchsurfed once while in Shanghai. It was a lot of fun and very convenient. The people I stayed with were awesome.
Interests
As mentioned I'm a pretty big nerd. I enjoy role-playing games, tabletop strategy, and anything where I can hang out with my friends with a game to inspire fun and conversation. I enjoy video games, books, and movies; especially the science fiction and fantasy variety.
Just being silly and carefree is fun. One of the best ways to spend a Friday night is to gather 30+ people and play zombie tag in the maze that is the fine arts building at my college.
I'm a natural debater and love to play the devil's advocate. My apparent political views shift right or left inversely to how liberal or conservative the people I'm talking with are.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm a big Terry Prachett fan. I also like Lois McMaster Bujold a lot. Forgotten Realms and the 40k universe make for fun casual reading.
I prefer music with complex and intense instrumental parts. Vocals and lyrics are important but can't carry a band. I like heavy metal a lot, especially progressive metal and symphonic metal.
