Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I got in to this when my friend got lost in Milan and ended up meeting a couchsurfer at a bar. He loved it so much he's been an evangelical since. I tried to surf in Greece, Switzerland, France, and Belgium - but I'm a kind of backroads guy so the places I was going didn't have any surfers.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The only time I've been in fear of my life: Skiing in the Swiss Alps I was on a t-bar lift when one of my skis hit a rut and came off. This, of course, spun me off the lift and sent me hurtling down a hill. The other ski off, I had just enough time self-arrest with my poles before a twenty or thirty foot (not life threatening, in retrospect) cliff. Had to hike my way back to my skis bleeding from the hands (had cut through my gloves). At the ridge (where my friends had watched) I sat down and looked out over the Alps. There is nothing more beautiful.
