About Me

Corey Carrington better known as Grits Capone is a poet, writer, and journalist from the North Side of Pittsburgh, PA. I am a graduate of Slippery Rock University with a degree in Communications and Creative Writing. My articles have been published by the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, The NorthSide Chronicle , and The Thomas Merton Center's, The NewPeople covering social justice and community events. I enjoy teaching creative writing to youth. Im a contributing writer to BlogOrDie.Net as well as for my personal site, DeeperThanGrits. com. I've performed at Pittsburgh venues such as, The August Wilson Center, The Kelly Strayhorn Theater, and The Shadow Lounge just to name a few.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2011 I completed Public Allies Pittsburgh, a 10 month servant leadership program in which I worked for The Thomas Merton Center, a social justice organization, founded on the principles held my Father Thomas Merton, a Catholic Monk.
