Amping up a cross-country road trip and other travels by meeting real-live couchsurfers!
Quasi-nomadic, I spend my time between the midwest and west. Sometimes I go east too. I like reading, which is a good thing, since I teach literature. Favorites? Gulliver's Travels, The Hungry Tide, Rasselas, Candide, Julie, or the New Heloise, Billy Collins, Robert Herrick and lots more. I also like a few movies. I have a healthy curiosity and enjoy litotes. I've travelled lots of places: every state except Hawaii and, inexplicably, Minnesota. Also spent time in 15 countries. I've met all kinds and look forward to meeting all kinds more. I also like donuts.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I participate by offering human contact to those who pass by my space and by not wanting to pass through space without a human contact. I really like the idea of meeting and talking to people while traveling. It is infinitely more enjoyable and meaningful. I also support a fellow couchsurfer by joining in on socializing when a couchsurfer is in town (in this case, San Francisco).
I've met a few couchsurfers through my friend Matt Simon in San Francisco. A true couchsurfer extraordinaire, he's met some amazing people. I would like to meet amazing people. I've enjoyed some couchsurfing social outings with him. He lives near the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park, and I've gone with him a few times while he's hosting couchsurfers to the Academy's "Nightlife". The museum is open until 10pm and there's a DJ and food and drink. It's always been an excellent time. Always fun to meet couchsurfers over dinner at his place too.
Books, road trips, food, music, poetry, dinosaurs, wine, platypi, jogging, big skies, color (literally and figuratively).
