About Me

To become a famous playwright.

Hey, my name is Stu. I grew up in Warrnambool, a small coastal town on the South West coast in Victoria. About four years ago I moved to Melbourne to study Creative Writing and to follow my dream to become an author and one day publish a novel. Now I am living in Prague and working as an English teacher while at the same time working on my writing and acting. I recently wrote, produced, and acted in my original play titled "Deja Vu" that was in the Prague Fringe Festival. I am currently working on my second play titled "False Friends" which will premiere also at the Prague Fringe in 2013.

When I am traveling I have learnt not to make too many plans because I think the world has a way of directing you to interesting experiences if you just let yourself go with the flow. I remember a couple of years ago I was in Den Haag in the Netherlands (I had originally wanted to spend my weekend in Amsterdam but I had left booking a hostel to the last minute and they were all booked out) and it turned out that at the reception was a long lost friend from Melbourne.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I have backpacked around many countries in Europe, but as far as couch surfing goes I am fairly new to the experience.

Writing, acting, theatre, art, literature, traveling, languages, friends, music, guitar, percussion, dancing, coffee.

Music, Movies & Books

I have very eclectic taste. When it comes to music, I listen to everything from Michael Jackson, to David Bowie, to Jeff Buckley, to Irish folk music, to Italian pop music, to Blues music, jazz music... well, you get the idea. As for movies, I like anything that is an interesting story (after all I am a writer). Favourite movies include Amelie, The Science of Sleep, Lost in Translation, Spanglish. Lately I have been watching a lot of classics too. I love anything magical realist in film and in literature. My favourite novel is The Count of Monte Christo by Alexandre Dumas. I admire the writings of Milan Kundera, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Franz Kafka to name a few. I enjoy all types of literary genres, but especially anything from the Magical Realism genre. At the moment I am reading "The Unbearable Lightness of Being" by Milan Kundera.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

My favourite experience in Europe has to be Carnevale in Venice. It was such a magical experience. Everyone wears masks, people throw confetti in the streets, and music is playing in every square and on every street corner. I'll never forget it!
In the Czech Republic my favourite experience has been writing and acting in my own original theatre play at the Prague Fringe Festival. It was an amazing experience to not only go to a festival like the Prague Fringe but to be an actual participant as well.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am happy to teach what I know about writing, english, acting, visual art, and whatever else... I know some Italian, and some basic Dutch and would love to improve my language skills.
