About Me

Hello!

My name's Sam and I'm a cheapskate.

Currently living out in Madagascar working for a charity in the southeast, which is pretty lovely. I'm occasionally back in the UK and tend to cram in whatever visits I can whilst I'm here, and given that I don't get paid for my job, seems sensible to see what the good people of Couchsurfing have to offer!

Like to think I'm a very relaxed, chilled out kind of guy. Open-minded and love talking to new, interesting people. Very flexible to do whatever you want to do as a host - whether it be have a chat or tell me to bugger off to bed.

I'm a big fan of travelling - have been lucky enough to travel to lots of places, including New Zealand, Tanzania, South Africa and Peru. Also had a brief period as a football journalist in which I went to the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea. Any Equatorial Guinea facts, just ask.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Actually signed up to Couchsurfing a few years ago but have never actually used it! Signed up to it originally when I was doing charity hitchikes at University of Sheffield, which was one of the loveliest experiences in my life, and continually restores my faith in humanity. Whilst I have never used it, my housemate signed us up whilst we were in Sheffield and we quite often had people staying over, so very familiar with the process of hosting.

Interests

I'm a considerable football fan (Arsenal, for my sins) and have watched a fair bit of African football, but not in a hipster way (I like to think). Also hold a big interest in all things Africa.

Bit of a leftie, very much like laughing and having some fun (laugh at most people's jokes, so will boost your self-esteem), enjoy a good series or a decent film, or getting out the house and going to the many beautiful places this world can offer.

Music, Movies, and Books

Batman: Dark Knight, Lord of the Rings, Fight Club, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Family Guy, Breaking Bad, US Office, Game of Thrones.

Everything Everything, Foals, Blink-182, Caribou, Future Islands, Ben Howard, Beirut - but very open minded.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Been living in Fort Dauphin, Madagascar for the past year working for SEED Madagascar. Absolutely beautiful and fascinating country with some lovely people, been having an absolute blast, and it's wonderful doing something that you feel like is doing some good.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A semi-acceptable cooking ability, confectionary, snacks, cans of cider and relatively able to hold a conversation!
