About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Quest for an affordable appartment (and avoid hotels in the meantime)

ABOUT ME

22, academic type person. I have a philosophy of "all things in moderation." I am friendly and outgoing, and I try my best to respect people and their various cultures/practices.

PHILOSOPHY

"All things in moderation"
"Memento mori" more than "Carpe Diem"
"There is always a silver lining."
Murphy's law.

In short, I am a positive realist. I hope for the best, but prepare for the worst, just in case. I am high, because "if you aim for the moon, even if you miss you'll still be among the stars."

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am currently traveling. I am new to this, so I haven't participated much, and as my future is nebulous, I don't know how I will definitively participate in the future.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

None yet!

Interests

Reading, painting, drawing, going to the theater/opera/symphony or to the movies. I like knitting. I have a story which I am trying to make myself write. I also play the piano.

My academic concentration is in the late Medieval through Renaissance time period. So, get me started in Elizabethan culture and I'll never stop.

Music, Movies, and Books

The list is far too long to really list.

Movies: Old movies (30's, 40's). Bringing up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, Casablanca, Sabrina, Roman Holiday, Gilda, A Touch of Evil. Slightly more modern: Two Mules for Sister Sarah, Godfather trilogy, Star Wars original trilogy (although I like Star Trek better), Terminator (1 and 2). Modern: Pride and Prejudice, Star Trek, classic Disney films, Sin City, Repo!, etc... basically, I like everything but most romantic comedies and horror. Hitchcock horror (ie suspense, not blood), I enjoy.

Music: Anything but country or rap. My iPod is rather eclectic.

Books: Most of my favorite books are really old (Paradise Lost, Dante's Inferno, Hamlet etc), but the more modern books I've read and loved are The Great Gatsby (yeah, I know it was written in the 20's), the Harry Potter books, and Good Omens.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen the sun rise over Masada.

Teach, Learn, Share

A lot of stuff you could find in what I've already shared. I tend to have accumulated a large number of random facts from the late Middle Ages through the renaissance (for instance, normal sheep used to be black, which is why older monastic orders wear dark robes. Farmers selectively bred sheep to be white, because it was less expensive to process and dye later in fabric production. This is why somewhat more modern orders wear brown robes, and the youngest wear white - each order tried to have the cheapest robes to obey the rule of Poverty).

I am also conversant on any number of subjects.

I would love to learn more about your culture or point of view.

Eventually I want to become more fluent in Italian, and learn German and Latin.
