To boldly go where no man has... oh wait, that's James T Kirk. When we returned from two years of travel based in the UK we temporarily relocated to New Plymouth, in the North Is and now back in Dunedin. Our mission now is to settle down, find work and somewhere to temporarily live... but travel is getting in the way for now :-D
We have returned to NZ following our big adventure - we have visited China, Turkey, Greece, Mallorca, Tenerfife, Yllas (Finnish Lapland), Cyprus, UK, Ireland, Iceland, Canada, USA & Fiji We are with HelpX as well, so it makes for an interesting time between temp work. We have not moved back into our own home yet, planning a bit of travel in NZ over the next wee while.
At home in NZ we potter in the garden, (we have a good crop of weeds - no, that does not mean a good crop of "weed").
Like going on short walks, bush walking, and don't do enough as we should. Anything physically strenuous is actively avoided though ;-)
We like to travel. In times BC (before Cynthea and children!) Tony traveled to Fiji, Tonga, Rarotonga, Noumea, and Australia (East coast). Cynthea lived in Sydney, Australia for a time.
We have both traveled a lot through NZ, Tony is an immigrant from the North, but should now qualify as a naturalised southerner.
Some years ago Tony was made redundant at the bank he worked for, so we decided to take the kids to Disneyland, but the trip sort took on a life of its' own, with detours to Sydney and Hawaii on the way, then continuing to Vegas, Grand Canyon, San Diego, Tijuana, Seattle, Vancouver Island, Vancouver, Calgary via the Rockies, Uk, Paris, Amsterdam, Toronto, and headed home via Hawaii, Sydney Brisbane, Auckland (then a road trip from Whangarei to Timaru). Just over three months with a 6 and 8 year old in tow. If we had known we would cope as well as we did, we would have stayed away longer...
We like to be happy, enjoy friendships and take advantage of opportunities that come along.
We like to help others if we can.
Whatever happens, "It was meant to be", though we may not always understand the reason...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We hosted before we left on our travels (hope you folks didn't mind the chaos!).
Now we ourselves are traveling and enjoying staying with other CSers.
Happy to meet for coffee/drinks, etc, where ever our travels take us.
We have been hosts and guests, the experience has enriched our lives, we really enjoyed the experiences. It was far beyond our expectations.
We would like to thank our guests and hosts - we have met some wonderful 'surfers, here at home in Dunedin and abroad. We look forward to many more positive experiences.
The Dunedin group has some fantastic folks involved, and we thoroughly enjoy their company. Now that we have experienced being hosted in Greece, Spain, Scotland, England and USA we truly believe that CS is for us.
The only "problems" we have is with those who do not have the manners to reply to messages, and those few that send a message where it is obvious our profile has not been read.
We make allowances for those new to the organisation, however please make some effort, thanks.
Scouting, Both are JCI Senators (Junior Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees). Past members of Dunedin astronomical society (strictly beginners!) and Cynthea belongs to a cake decorating guild.
Not that into sports (sorry), or heavy, indepth political or religious discussions.
We like travel, funnily enough... In the distant past we traveled for over three months with two kids in tow (6 and 8 years old at the time, terrified we were going to lose them in a busy airport or train station!). From Timaru we drove to Christchurch and flew to Sydney, then Hawaii. From LA we drove to Vegas (Twice on the wrong side of the road when we forgot where we were), Grand Canyon, San Diego, Tiajuana, back to LA. Flew to Seattle, then Vancouver Island. From Vancouver over the Rockies (so much like home, we felt homesick) to Calgary. Flew to the UK for a couple of weeks, had a weekend in Paris (without the kids), a few days in Amsterdam, then to Toronto. Back to LA, Hawaii and Sydney. Drove to Brisbane to fly to Auckland, and drove to Whangarei. From there we drove down the N.I. west coast, over the ditch and on to Christchurch. Phew. Would love to do it again, without the kids! But other places to see first...
Music, Movies, and Books
Movies - Keep the tissues handy for the soppy movies that Cynthea watches (Tony watches them too, he just doesn't cry as much).
Too many to list all the favs... Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit were filmed on our doorstep. Harry Potter, Forrest Gump, Star trek, Star Wars, Die Hard, Indiana Jones, Shawshank Redemption. ...and if it stars Sandra Bullock, Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler, Hugh Grant, or Tom Hanks then there is a good chance we will enjoy it.
Music - well there is Abba, Queen, Eagles, Cliff Richard, Celine Dion, Bruce Springsteen, and Elton John to name a few. Like a lot of the stuff from the 70s and 80s. Tony will have a radio going in every room as well as with him outside, Cynthea would sometimes rather have the quiet...
Rock, country, Musicals - Andrew Lloyd Webber, Rocky Horror, Mama Mia and Priscilla (there's Abba again!), Grease, Saturday Night Fever. A bit, but not a lot, of opera (Amici, Three Tenors) as long as it doesn't screech.
Not into rap or the head banging stuff, nor are we into noisy clubs where can't hear yourself think and have to yell at your friends to be heard.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We surprised our friends (and ourselves) when we scared the **** out of ourselves by walking around the outside of the Auckland SkyTower, some 200m above the ground, woo hoo. They reckon that the platform is 1.2m wide, Tony reckons they could be dreaming, but wasn't keen on getting down to measure it.
Since traveling we have climbed the Great Wall near Beijing, and had a balloon flight in Capodoccia, Turkey in April 2011.
Walked on the glass floor of the CN Tower in Toronto, and even got on a rollercoaster at Disneyland.
