Overview
About Me
I'm a 56 year old guy who owns a coffee shop. I love my job, love interacting with people, and have a strong desire to go do some things, see some places. Love the small town living, but seriously want to expand.
I've played an acoustic guitar almost all my life and find myself very comfortable with a guitar and a song. Love, and do a lot of music from the 70's. However, I'm not a retro guy always looking back at "the good ol' days" Nope, my life is ahead of me, not behind me. I love much of the new music out there too. I play gigs at local bars once a month or so.. and of course play almost daily in my coffee shop.
I'm Open minded and eager to just take a bite outta life. I want to have fun, and do that with like minded people. Life is short, and I'm not wanting to waste any of it. I love live music, night life, always love a party. Natural beauty is high on my list...Beautiful geography. I'm not a techno-geek...not opposed to technology. I use it to enhance, and help make things smoother/easier, and I sometimes suck at it.
Damn... I make a great Latte, I do the Latte art on my drinks...it's pretty cool. I have no close family...my customers and friends are my family. I love them, and they love me.
I live alone in a nice two bedroom apartment... Divorced 2 years ago. Oh yeah, I do have a cat!
I love to eat well, I read some, and can usually find some common ground with anybody I find myself with. I'm comfortable in most situations and with most people. I'm not wigged out by people who think differently than me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
4 things come to mind immediately;
-I own a small coffee shop in a small town. I was divorced 2 years ago...Translated, that means money is an issue for me. I live fine but it would be a stretch for me to afford the hotel rates
-Miss the opportunity to meet/ interact with people...much like myself? why? The people I would meet, and become friends with is a large part of the draw of couch-surfing for me.
-Resorts?...really? that's not what I want. Plush, fancy, all the bell's and whistles...no thanks. A place to sleep, and shower, hang out with good people...now we're talking.
-I am weary of doing things in the prescribed manner. Buy the ticket, book the room, rent the car, blah, blah, blah. I've done things most of my life that way. This sounds exciting, different, a great opportunity. Much more fun.
Interests
Whoa... I should have read ahead. Covered most of this in an earlier section.
I'm interested in great music, living in the moment, seeing how other people do life. Sure, I can talk deeper subjects with you, but I'd rather grab a beer and keep things light...have fun.
I'm interested in people.
I love a good plot, a good movie.
Good food interests me.
I'm interested in space, how we got here, etc.
I'm not interested in growing old, or even thinking about it. There is so much life to live here and now. I find it interesting that most of the people I hang with are in their mid 30's. I don't make any special effort to hang with people younger than me, it just seems that's where I end up...it's where I seem to fit.

Music, Movies, and Books
Passenger is my current favorite band. I really dig Imagine Dragons...the lyrics are fine, but I just really like their sound.
Always have gravitated to the acoustic acts, James Taylor, Jim Croche. Bands like the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac hold a place for me. I always include I'm All About That Bass when I do a gig. Something strange about a guy with an acoustic guitar doing a song like that...a real crowd pleaser.
Movies that are so real they make me cry, or movies that are so ridiculously unbelievable. Movies that make me think.
I read more articles and short stories than books. However I've read everything Louis L'Amour wrote. Loved the short story The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty...It's better than the movie btw. Gone Girl was a good read.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Backround... I have a high school education. I worked in an auto plant for 25 years. Was a group leader on an assembly line when the plant closed. I was 50 years old. It was 2009, the housing market had collapsed the year before. The economy was in the toilet. My options were to fold up, wither and die, or to reinvent. I chose the latter. I loved good coffee, and a place with a good vibe. So, in that horrible economic climate I took a 2 week Barista training course, got a job for a summer at a coffee shop on Beaver Island Michigan. came back, bought a failed coffee shop, and without ever having owned a business, of any kind, I rolled the sleeves up and went to work. My only business plan was to treat people well, and create a place that I would like to hang out in. And of course, serve quality products. That's been 5 years ago and my shop is healthy, and doing well. It's pretty freakin amazing...to me, that a dude could lose all he'd known for 25 years, clear his head, reinvent and move to the other side of the universe, vocation wise, and make it work. All with no business training, and in a extremely hard economic time. I'm pretty darn proud of that.
Teach, Learn, Share
Not sure what C. S. is looking for here. I can teach a few things, Yes, always open to learning, I can share my life/living experiences.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A pleasant disposition, a fun loving, easy to get along with guest with no attitude. Knowledge, and insight into mid-west living, and a damn good cup of coffee, given the right stuff to work with.
I could share my life, and my life experiences...if host is open to that. I'm an open book and love to interact, share, and receive as well. But I also totally respect the privacy and feelings of those that do not place emphasis on these things.
I can share with you a quiche that will rock your world...not sure if this is what C. S. is looking for here... but, it's that good!
I've answered the best I know how.
