About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Singapore to London overland

ABOUT ME

I'm currently on a 9-month sabbatical, travelling overland from Singapore to London via SE Asia, China, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey, Eastern Europe, the Baltic States and Scandinavia in an effort to absorb all the world has to offer and glimpse into the many and varied wonders of the world's diversity.

Interests

I'm interested in geography, politics and history and I'm always keen to find out about other countries and what people believe in, care about or think.

I also love nature and I like getting out into the mountains and hiking. I enjoy mountain-biking and have started taking up climbing. And if there's anything tall then I always have to climb to the top of it, whether it's a hill, a mountain, a clock tower, a church steeple or an abandoned building.

I like meeting people and finding out about their lives, interests and opinions and I'm always up for a long debate about anything from philosophy to psychology to politics....that's when I get most animated.

I also really enjoy cooking and miss this when I'm travelling; so if you have a decent kitchen perhaps I can rustle up something tasty for us to eat!

Music, Movies, and Books

In no particular order: Stieg Larsson, Tolkien, A Clockwork Orange (the novel, not the movie), Khaled Hosseini, Margaret Atwood, Thomas Hardy, Richard Dawkins, Perfume (both novel and movie), Tennessee Williams, Philip Pullman, Shakespeare, the Brontes, Orwell, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Twelve Angry Men, Dr Zhivago, Good Will Hunting, The Shawshank Redemption, Control (Ian Curtis), Slumdog Millionaire, Fight Club, Winter's Bone, One Flew Over the Cuckoos' Nest, Educating Rita

For me music is mostly about the lyrics and I like songs that I can think about and analyse over a long period of time...songs that I don't understand at first but that make me think...and that can be interpreted more than one way...there are songs I've been thinking about for years and still find new insights in...
