Get slugs drunk on cheap beer
*Back from an epic Euro trip!!* I'm kind of out-ish until the 7th of Oct. and then hit and miss after but send me a well crafted request and we'll see what we can manage!
I recently quit my job and have a friend running the farm for a year. I'm taking some time to travel and enjoy the world for a year before digging back into my local soil. I live with other surfers that you can contact and they may be able to host you. Cheers and best of luck!
Throughout the past 27 years I've been able to remain incredibly busy working jobs, investing in others and the local community. As I live life I realize that some of my busyness is part of being a slave to the almighty dollar. While I do work a lot, my occupation in no way defines who I am. One of my many goals is to decrease my dependence on money and continue to become self(and community)-reliant and educated with practical knowledge. I'll happily teach you anything that I know and ask that you share anything that you think would be of use for my present and future.
One thing I really enjoy is meeting new people. It is refreshing to be exposed to new stories and ideas.
I am comfortable doing anything so don't feel pressure to go out of your way to accommodate me, I can fit in wherever.
I am always trying to find ways to continue in my minimalistic/DIY lifestyle. Because of this you will hardly ever see me buying or using processed foods.
*update* All of my food now comes from local dumpsters and my garden. Typically plenty of food on hand to share and enjoy!
I dabble in sustainability. Hopefully soon my graywater will be diverted to make my garden even more amazing and productive!
Be humble and gracious because - the smaller you become, the bigger your world gets!
If it's free, it's me
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. - Philippians 2:3-4
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
When I am not taking care of the farm or selling precious hours of my life to a corporation, I attend get-togethers with the Philly group. Additionally I host often and have surfed globally.
From my experience, couch-surfers are some of the nicest folks on the planet. There is a broad range of beliefs, ideas, and dreams which folks eagerly share. CSers tend to be open minded and living open lives.
I enjoy just about everything! Meeting new people and traveling mostly(hence why I am on CS).
I am very much into road cycling and dabble in triathelons.
Cooking is my main domestic skill and I enjoy trying it out on anyone so if you do end up crashing, chances are you will get to enjoy at least one cooked meal. I can do vegan, organic, gluten free, accommodate a broad range of allergies... mostly homemade from scratch. You won't go hungry here!
As of Spring 2013 I've been dumpster diving for at least 95% of my food. I can't believe the quality of stuff I've been able to find and am eating better than I've ever done in my life! I will gladly share my food with you and as is the case with most past surfers, I'll take you on a dive.
Other interests are:
Biking, gardening, running, camping, hiking, taking random road trips, slacklining, hosting dinners and breakfasts (need to start some lunches!), biking, sustainable living and random adventures. Did I mention biking?
Music, Movies, and Books
Often I find myself reading books that are full of knowledge and wisdom or will help me make a difference. This in not all inclusive but it can be a philosophy book, biography, history or how-to book.
Music - Daphne Loves Derby and other wonderful bands.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Once my contract from the military ended I spent a six weeks traveling the US visiting places that I had always dreamed about seeing. It was the most epic road trip ever, although I would enjoy planning another more epic trip in the future!
In 2011 I took an incredible 400 mile mid-atlantic cycling tour. In addition to raising money to install a few wells in Africa and save countless lives I was able to cycle from NC all the way up to NJ - beautiful countryside!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you how to cook quickly and efficiently (and most of the time cheaply!).
I have taught finances and budgeting before and am willing to help anyone in this area... so you can have money to make more trips!
I run an organic CSA from my yard and can teach you how to grow great veggies and be sustainable and friendly to the earth.
I'd love to learn manual photography. Also, if you know acroyoga I am very interested in learning. It looks like a ton of fun!
I have a thirst for knowledge and enjoy learning anything new.
I enjoy sharing cooking and meals, bike trips, conversations, star gazing (if you know constellations, do teach!), and almost anything else. You can always have more fun and get in more trouble with someone!
