About Me

CURRENT MISSION

WILL TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS FOR A COUCH! Oh, and complete as many 101 Things To Do Before You Die that I can! Google it ;)

ABOUT ME

I would be content to travel to place after place and photograph and then staying up all night editing! Unforunately under capitalism they force us to this crazy thing called work, so I am currently a dog walker until I can figure out how to make photography sustain me :)

I spent 2011-2012 with the Occupy movement as a part of Occupy Wall Street in NYC, Occupy DC and Occupy LA, as well as traveling to other cities such as Philadelphia and Chicago. I am still an activist :)

My activist focus is around ending the Stop & Frisk policy here in NYC, and mass incarceration as a whole. I advocate for rehabilitation and other means and am a firm believer in prison abolition.

PHILOSOPHY

Love is My Religion.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

In the past and now currently I enjoy meeting up with fellow CSers around the cities that I am living in or visiting.

I know a beautiful coffee shop with an amazing ambiance in Brooklyn with delicious hot cider and another fun-filled coffee place around Union Square in Manhattan!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have attended movie nights in the parks, picnics, and other events in order to meet and become friends with fellow CouchSurfers. I have met some amazing people from all over the globe and am excited to attend more events!

One Amazing Thing I've Done

My ability to travel to Cuba without a license was eye-opening. The United States government does not want Americans to travel freely to and from Cuba, with the recent exception of Cuba-Americans. In order to travel there, one must first go to Canada or Mexico and then arrange for transporation to Cuba, with the possibility if a fine and FBI visits upon return.

The country is not perfect. It has difficulties with transporation, housing and food, much of it due to the United States blockade. The U.S. refers to it as the "embargo," however an embargo would mean that only the U.S. refuses to do business with Cuba. It is a blockade because the U.S. penalizes other countries for doing business with Cuba. Even though Cuba is able to manufacture most of its textiles, food and medicine, it is not able to produce everything, requiring it to purchase goods from other countries. Many people die each year due to the inability to successfully and quickly receive medications due to the blockade.

I traveled with the Venceremos Brigade, a contingent that has gone to Cuba in solidarity with its People since 1969. We were present for the 60th anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks and were able to hear President Raul Castro speak, as well as all other presidents of the ALBA countries. We participated in solidarity work with the Cubans and were able to ask questions in order to learn as much as possible.

I enjoy continuing my education about Cuba's history, art, People and culture and look forward to returning each year in the future.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach English to those trying to learn, as well as helping with their reading and writing skills. I can also teach the basics of photography and how to create better composition and technique.

I'd love to learn about other cultures, i.e. food, religion, etc., as well as other languages. I'd also like to learn almost any other form of art!
