Hey, I'm Devon.
While waiting for classes to start so I can become an RN, I'm currently looking for work and volunteering as an EMT with my local fire department, and Team Rubicon; a global disaster relief organization.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
B̶e̶c̶a̶u̶s̶e̶ ̶I̶'̶m̶ ̶p̶o̶o̶r̶.̶
Travelling anywhere, be it in your own state or across the globe is a unique experience that cannot be matched by anything else. Unfortunately, doing so also racks up a pretty price point.
Why pay to stay alone in a stale hotel when you could be learning about the city you're in from the people that know it best? Not only would you be staying in a place much more homely than a hotel, but you would also be sharing experiences and knowledge with host/guest.
Medicine is my number one interest. Medical technology is advancing extremely quickly, and I aim to keep up with it as it does. I find it extremely fascinating how we can repair the body after it's injured or falls ill. Even more fascinating is how the simple act of caring can change a person's life forever.
When I'm not drooling over the next instrument that our ambulance's stock, I'm writing fiction and composing music.
Music, Movies, and Books
The Glitch Mob, Ratatat, Gramatik, and Lazerhawk pretty much encompasses all I listen to.
I don't have that much time to read, but I'm almost finished with Metro 2033 and will be searching for its sequel when it released.
Nothing beats Fight Club in film.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
It's more common (and less successful) than you might think, but the first time I performed CPR will always stick with me.
It's not a pretty sight when the person that was breathing a few minutes ago is inching closer and closer to never being alive again. Most of my co-workers regard the process simply as a set of instructions to follow and repeat, and they're correct. Still, it doesn't change the fact that you're actively attempting to stay the hand of death.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am always continuing my medical education, and would never refuse sharing my knowledge and experiences with someone else.
I also welcome conversations about most any topic without judgment or bias.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Leaving somewhere you've been better than you found it is a solid mantra to live by, and I follow it religiously.
Also, I have no problem cooking while staying. There isn't too much that I can't make delicious; and nothing I'm not willing to try.
