About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Help out others who are in the same situation I've been in while travelling.

ABOUT ME

Well, I'm an American who has lived abroad for a total of 2 years. After graduating high school, I saved up some money for a few years and decided to bail to Europe for 6 months. I then fell in love Paris and decided to move there, so I enrolled in some classes at the Sorbonne. After a year there, I move to Santa Cruz, California where I got my BA in Language Studies, which is essentially a doulbe major in Linguistics and French with a minor in German. After graduation, I moved back to Paris (the suburbs actually) to teach English. Then back to the States (Potland, OR) for a few years... back to Sacramento where I got a job with Apple Computer, and now I'm planning the next phase of my life so I can go learn Arabic and Chinese.

PHILOSOPHY

Trust people (quite naive I know, but I hope that it won't get the best of me), try to gain an insight to other people through thei culture and language. I don't really have an religious beliefs, but I am quite "new agey" in that I practice Reiki (although not for several months), or as all my friends call me, the hippy, although you wouldn't know it my looking at me.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have a house in Sacramento, CA close the downtown/midtown Sacramento. Important information for travelers: I walk home from the bar on a semi-regular basis, and it only takes about half and hour! Ok, maybe not so important, but it got your attention. Aside from being close to buses, the train station (by taxi or bus), the airport (20 minutes), San Francisco (about an hour, 1.5 with traffic) and the rest of the Bay Area, as well as Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Nevada mountains, hiking, snows skiing, sufring, camping, clubbing, bar hopping... you name it, it's here within 2 hours. Essentially, I grew up in the area, have seen many things inside and outside California and the US, and I now have a distinct appreciation for what there is to offer in my own backyard.

I have plenty of crash space until spring 2007 (then none until well after summer 2007) with a very welcoming and hospitable lifestyle. I would be more than happy to suggest places to go and things to see. I rise very early in the morning, so the weeknights are mellow, but that wouldn't preclude a respectful from coming in late.

Interests

Fun, people, places, cultures, did I mention fun! Been to Burning Man for a few years, so if you know what that, then we'll get along just fine. :)
I'm also an avid e-mailer, comptuer geek type of guy, but keep myself rounded by maintaining my health through decent foods (sometimes the fastfood craving wins out though) and execise. Basically, for the next several years, I'm planning on travelling quite extensively, but mainling to Arabic speaking countries and China... gotta learn Arabic and Chinese in the next few years.

Music, Movies, and Books

tons and tons of movies, lots of sci-fi, action adventure, also the kung fu movies, especially Shao Lin Soccer... absolutely hilarious. I've been having a hard time getting back into books, but I recently subscribed to New Scientist and I can't put down the articles, being somewhat of a novice science geek as well.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I would have to say that moving to a foreign country by meself was pretty amazing.
