Hey my name's Donald. I enjoy hiking, reading and writing poetry, meeting new people, exploring the vastness of life, surrealist art, and discovering new music. Broad-minded and open to the opinions of others, good at listening to people's stories, practice Taoist philosophy (Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu's writings).
Any questions--feel free to ask! :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I'm looking to travel around the States this summer beginning around mid-July through August. It's an extended break from work-life and the fast-pace New York life. I plan on doing a lot of backcountry camping but any place that I can crash for a night would be most welcome and deeply appreciated.
- mountain hiking
- free camping
- primitive camping
Music, Movies, and Books
Some of my favorite poets are Li Po, Tu Fu, Lew Welch, Czeslaw Milosz, Arthur Sze, E.E. Cummings, and Raymond Carver.
Some of my favorite artists are Max Ernst, Yves Tanguy, Giorgio Chirico, Van Gogh, Hokusai, and Hiroshige.
My taste in music is really broad so instead of listing artists/bands here are the genres I enjoy: alternative rock, indie rock, reggae, folk, traditional folk, classic rock, hip-hop (old school and new school), electronica (and most of its subgenera), punk, black metal, doom metal, psychedelic folk and rock, dream pop.
Teach, Learn, Share
I have some experience in Wing Chun and Hung Gar martial arts.
And I'm always willing to learn new skills, which is something I hope to accomplish on my travels this summer.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A large collection of music, eastern philosophy, plus I'm pretty handy when it comes to cleaning, heavy-lifting, and yard work.
