About Me

Unfortunately I'm not able to provide a place to stay right now (I sincerely wish I could)

I'm kind of a quiet guy, more interested in getting to know people one on one than in going out in big groups. I've travelled before and, while I enjoyed it, my biggest regret is that I usually don't get to form connections with the natives. I would like to change that.

Basically I'm hoping to become a more interesting person. I want to become familiar with a wider range of the human experience.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To travel for cheap and make new friends, and see the world, whether it be big cities or small boring suburbs or remote farmland

Interests

Probably my most niche interest is conlanging, or creating constructed languages. Ive been doing it off and on as a hobby since I was about 14 years old. It's a great introduction to linguistics.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like Science Fiction and weird fiction, especially internet fiction (creepypasta, SCP, etc.) I like short stories and stories that are plot/idea driven. As far as modern authors, I like Iain Banks, but my favorites growing up, and the authors whose work I've read the most, were Heinlein, Asimov, Clarke, Ellison, and Van Vogt I also like books from other genres (one of my favorites is A Confederacy of Dunces). I like horror movies, especially classics. While science fiction is better in book form (because it's all about ideas), horror works best on film (because it's all about emotion). My favorites are The Thing, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Oculus, The Beyond, and Return of the Living Dead.

I like lots of music, but especially electronic music, including industrial and IDM but also including dance music, especially acid house and rave music. This is ironic considering I'm not a big fan of clubs. I also like metal (but not nearly as much as I once did). Almost any genre is going to have something I like in it.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you about languages and linguistics. And other stuff (I have an amateur interest in evolutionary biology as well). I'm not a naturally talkative person, but because of my job as an English teacher I've learned how to continue conversations pretty much at will.

I love learning languages. If you speak any other language I'd be happy to learn it from you/practice it with you

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'll do my best to leave you better off then you were before you met me (or at least not any worse). I'm also pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the local public transport system.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, Japan, United States
