Well the Fulbright Kommission is only paying me to work 12 hours a week, so I might as well see Europe!

ABOUT ME

Well I'm 23, finished with university and want to see the world. While I'm young and without family obligations, I think it would be a crime not to see as much of the world and its people as possible. Though I enjoy a good hotel just as much as anyone, I discovered that a) its way to expensive if you travel a lot and b) you don't get to really meet people the way you do if you live with them. Hostels can accomplish this in some ways, but generally you only meet other travellers visiting like you. However, when you acutally live with someone from the area who can show you where to go (and maybe they come with you), meet their friends and just generally get to know the place for real, that makes it a more meaningful experience.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that a lot of people lead the lives they that are less than fulfilling... I will not do that. I'm young, not bound by family obligations (yet) and want to see as much, do as much, and give as much as I can. Life is too short, Carpe Diem, yada yada yada... You may find it cliche, but its true! People are also basically good individually, though when they get into groups you find some trouble. However, I have met only good people throughout my life and know I will continue to find them...

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

As a Fulbrighter in Germany I am supposed to represent my country, and I do that every day in my school and town. However, the world is a big place and I believe I can contribute to cultural understanding and exchange anywhere. So far I have only used CS once with my friends Charlie and Sarah, but I look to be more involved in the coming years. Travelling is one component and am doing that now, but in the future I would like to host (unfortunately I'm not sure anyone would want to come to where I am right now).

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I had never heard of Couchsurfing until a buddy suggested we use it on our trip to Greece. We were hosted by Gregory on the first part of the trip and Lena on the second part; IT WAS SUCH A REWARDING EXPERIENCE. Like many I was uneasy at first, but now I see the value of exchancing ideas and meeting people of different cultures you might not have otherwise met. My Greece trip was enhanced by my Couchsurfing experience. Gregory is now a great friend, and Lena even bought me a cake for my birthday (I was in her apartment during my birthday). Where else could this happen with complete strangers?
