ABOUT ME

I am a guy who first and foremost loves the outdoors! Being a geology major as only enforced this in me. When I am outdoors, I will climb (although I have not done anything too technical yet), hike, camp, and everything in between. Being an extrovert, I love to do all these things with other people but, sometime I want to spend a week like Les Stroud.

When I am not spending time in the wilderness, I like to play sports. I love running, baseball, soccer, volleyball, broomball, and want to learn how to play cricket. Besides sports, I have recently learned how to brew beer. Brewing, it turns out, is an awesome process that is not too complicated but you can still manipulate it to create different flavors! On a similar note, I love to cook! I have only recently started to experiment, but I am learning quickly how to make some awesome meals.

I have been in a wonderful relationship with my girlfriend for over two years now. She is also a geology major and is equally as passionate about the outdoors as I am.

I also can't ever get enough animals! At it's peak my house (which we have dubbed the "Zoo") had two dogs, two cats, one parrot, two bearded dragons, and fish. The number has dwindled since then however. I still believe that animals are the best companions.

I am of a strong belief that President Barack Obama is going to be one of, if not the best president that the United States has seen. This will be even more true coming off the heels of the worst president in history.

PHILOSOPHY

I live life to the fullest, while trying to make as small of an impact on the environment as I can. This is difficult, being in college right now (especially in a college rental house...) but I still do try. While at home, my family grows lots of vegetables, fruits and herbs, so it is not hard to live somewhat off the land there.

I do not own a car. I am not against people who do, but there are too many reasons for me not to own one. They are expensive, terrible for the environment, loud, smelly, and dangerous. I have also never felt the need to own a car, seeing as I bike or walk everywhere I go. Public transit is also extremely useful.

Once I have my own place, I plan on growing all my own fruits, vegetables, and herbs. I also want to brew all my own beer and wine.

Wow. This is a tough one. Well, for movies, I really haven't seen any lately, but some of the "older" ones i like are Gladiator, Once, chris farley movies, LotR, and more too.

Music is even harder. I love independent music as well as lots of popular stuff. Iron and Wine, Calexico, Alter Bridge, Shinedown, Timmy Curran, Glen Hansard, Marketa Irglova, Regina Spektor, Atmosphere, Beirut, Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley, Xavier Rudd, Wilco, Switchfoot, State Radio, Sigur Ros, Dave Matthews Band, Damien Rice, Coldplay, The Frames, Gillian Welch, Guster, Nickel Creek, Muse, Journey, to name a few...plenty more that I missed though...

Nothing has been too crazy, like skydiving (not yet, at least...) or bungee jumping from the world's highest bridge. I have, however, been on some wild rapids in the Grand Canyon in geology field camp where the four boats we had strapped together all broke apart and a couple people were nearly lost. I have hiked much of the southwest of the US, as well as farther north in to Colorado and Wyoming.

I suppose one amazing thing I have done (in the sense that not too many other people have done this) is biked a mile to school when the windchill temperature was -75 degrees F. That was the coldest temperature I have ever experienced.

Not to labor on, but I did pick up a western diamondback rattlesnake with a stick and carried it away from our campsite (that wasn't the only rattler experience of mine...). That was intense.
