To keep the conversation going
I live to ride - Last year I graduated from college with my second bachelors degree and I moved onto Snowshoe mountain for a season to live as a snowboard bum, and I haven't left yet! This is my second season at Snowshoe living and working on the mountain, riding before and after work.
Check here for the current weather and trail report:
Update December 11th - Around one foot of snowfall this last week, the conditions will be great for riding this weekend!
âMan is most nearly himself when he achieves the seriousness of a child at play.â
- Heraclitus of Ephesus
"But tell me, my brethren, what the child can do, which even the lion could not do? Why hath the preying lion still to become a child?
Innocence is the child, and forgetfulness, a new beginning, a game, a self-rolling wheel, a first movement, a holy Yea."
- Nietzsche's Zarathustra "The Three Metamorphoses"
"The Fate of Being: a child that plays... Why does it play, the great child of the world-play Heraclitus brought into view in the aiôn? It plays, because it plays. The "because" withers away in the play. The play is without "why." It plays since it plays. It simply remains a play: the most elevated and the most profound. But this "simply" is everything, the one, the only... The question remains whether and how we, hearing the movements of this play, play along and accommodate ourselves to the play."
- Martin Heidegger: The Principle of Reason
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I travel in order to engage in discourse with others about how we understand the meaning of culture, community, solidarity, and education.
Sharing in food and recipes helps to develop a sense of mutual understanding and brings people together in a unique way. I love to cook and bake for others and will gladly be a kitchen assistant for my hosts!
After ending my apartment lease August 2011, I have been travelling around revisiting friends and making new friends in Richmond, D.C., and Shenandoah areas of Virginia. I've been couchsurfing around through my network of friends developing my skills as a guest. My goal now is to travel back down to the South and experience the culture there.
Studying 20th Century American and German Philosophy, working on my German language skills, reading political commentaries on American and German politics.
Recently I have started painting and developing an appreciation of art and music. As a man of science most of my life has been dominated by mathematics and formulae - it was not until I studied Philosophy that I began to realize the importance of art as an expression of truth and culture.
