About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Moving to HCMC Vietnam

ABOUT ME

I am very open-minded and willing to try almost
anything (I could not eat balut). When I told my friends and family that I was quitting my job and going to Asia to be an English teacher, they all said that I was CRAZY. Giving up a very good job with great pay and benifits for the unknown of foreign countries. But as to my character, they would say that I am very honest and dependable. I am a man of my word and will always try to do a good job in anything I attempt. I am very steady and slow to anger. To live the kind of life I now have, you just have to let the little things go by. Stranger in a strange land, says it all. I have also been told that I have a somewhat strange sense of humor, I don't think so, but I do see much humor in people's behavior. If you can laugh at yourself, no one else can laugh at you, only with you.

PHILOSOPHY

"Buy the ticket, take the ride." Hunter S Thompson
"I may be getting older, but I refuse to grow up."
See and experence the world like a child, if new people and experences don't leave you with a sense of awe, you're already half-way to your grave.
It's a big world and there is always something new around the next corner, lets go look.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hope to make new friends.
Will gladly trade English lessons for Vietnamese lessons.
Would very much like to meet locals who can show me some more of HCMC.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have had four surfers so far and all were great experiences. I'm open to anything and this is a great way to meet new people

Interests

Seeing and learning the "NEW". New people, new books, new music, new experences. I spent the first half of my life in a very narrow corner of the world. More than anything, I want to understand other cultures and peoples, and help them to understand the American people. That while governments may disagree, people can always work together.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite movie is "The Shawshank Redemption", a repeat of the lesson that it's not how many times you get knocked down in life, what defines you as a person is how many times you get up.
My favorite book is "A Brief History of Time". And my personal hero is Steven Hawking.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Angkor Wat in Cambodia was the most amazing thing I have ever seen, it just left me in awe. But then to visit the killing fields the next day was enough to confuse my soul with the contrast between the beauty of the temples and the horror of brutal mass murders of the Khmer revolution.

Teach, Learn, Share

I love to discuss politics and religion. I am facinated by the frontiers of science such as quantum and astro physics, and by the advances in medicine, computers and robotics.
If you get angry at waiters, cannot laugh at yourself, and fail to see just how funny people can be - I don't want to know you.

Countries I’ve Visited

Cambodia, Canada, Laos, Mexico, Philippines, Thailand, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

China, Thailand, United States
