"Hyperactive" is a misnomer. I prefer "superactive".
Learning new languages is one of my main passions. There are nine languages I eventually intend to know quite well, though it would probably be at least twenty years before I actually get around to all of them - English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic and Hebrew. Recently I've come across a new one - sign language! It's fascinatingly different. So if I count that one as well (one dialect of it, since it differs from country to country), we get the cliched ten - the holy grail of all lists. (If you ever meet me in person, make sure I show you how to sign "sababa" [slang for "excellent"] in Israeli sign-language. It's... very intuitive.) [Update: Had a misadventure that got me to learn some Afrikaans...]
Other than that... I'm interested in pretty much everything. History, philosophy... it's all good. The only exception I can think of is spectator-sports - I enjoy swimming, but I couldn't care less about watching other people puddle through the water while a crowd of first-degree relatives cheers them on. But with that single exception, there's nothing I don't enjoy discussing.
Oh, right - I don't care for reality shows. So there are two subjects I can't bear discussing.
- sign language
Music, Movies, and Books
My favourite authors are, off the top of my head, James Clavell (Shogun, Tai-Pan, King Rat, Noble House...), Jeffrey Eugenides (Middlesex, The Virgin Suicides), and Terry Pratchett (Discworld). As for Terry Pratchett - I bought and read everything that was ever written by him. Even that book about how much he likes cats.
As far as movies go - they generally go by too fast to really relate to the characters and story, but require too much of your attention to do anything else while watching them (especially if you watch them in the movie theater, in which case you're actually forbidden doing anything else). So I much prefer watching TV shows, as I can do other things at the time (read, study, work or surf the internet). Among my favourites are House, Scrubs, Rome, American Dad!, Family Guy and Desperate Housewives. (What can I say? Israeli TV is mostly shit. Erez Nehederet and Miskhak Makhur are among the only exceptions. As for dramas, I don't believe there are any exceptions.)
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A drunk in Tbilisi once went down on his knees before me, lifted his head to stare at my face with an adoring look, and told me that meeting me was just like meeting Jesus Christ. I blessed him and his family, and was on my way. When I eventually die, it will be for his sins.
