About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Seek real freedom, spend time with amazing people
ABOUT ME
I am a dedicated person - to my friends, to my studies, to making sure the strange and wonderful winding road of my life's experiences amounts to something positive, and to continually finding what makes me happy. I love being outdoors, traveling, playing basketball, and staying in tune with the fascinating, inspiring, disturbing, and peculiar evolution of life on this planet. That is to say, I gather info and knowledge from a wide variety of places and people. I aspire to make a serious effort to regularly set aside my own concerns to really listen to the people around me and to do what I can to respond compassionately, whatever that may mean. It is largely for this reason that, after a variety of unique (and not-so-unique) jobs and an eclectic education, I decided to try to become a doctor, and I'm getting closer to this goal with each day.
PHILOSOPHY
Open as many doors as possible.
Make others feel at ease around me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'd often considered signing up on CS, because it obviously has a better upside than hostel life, but the daunting prospect of filling out a massive online profile deterred me until now, when the daunting prospect of going broke in Australia won out. This is not to say that I see CS as a merely a way to get by on the cheap - I want to meet some amazing, quirky, and generous people! It says a lot about someone that they'd open their home to a stranger, and I have immense respect for that sort of attitude towards life.
I rent a room in a big cozy home in Burlington, and we have a guest room and a very sleepable couch. When I get back to VT, I'll likely be pretty busy with my coursework, but I would at least give you the basic Burlington intro, and if I have some free time I can show you some of the best food/drink/hiking spots around

Interests
Maybe I'm a bit of a geek, but these days I'm not sure I love anything more than good conversation that fears no boundary, or when I can simply find unexpected common ground. It seems to be a rare achievement. Do you listen to understand, or wait to reply? I suppose I am guilty of both, but I strive for the former :)
I shudder at the thought of making an exhaustive list of all my interests, since I've probably been interested in most things I've encountered in some way or another. A few things off the top of my mind: Health sciences, ancient civilizations, mid-90's hiphop, esoteric cultural references, alternate definitions of value, eastern philosophy, extreme low-brow humor, ways of transcending repressive patriarchal social constructs that restrict human evolution, tacos...
Ultimately, I want to increase my own capacity for service and appreciation, so I see any opportunity to improve my overall fitness through physical and intellectual challenges as a welcomed opportunity, and I try to eat for optimal health when possible. Hopefully that all doesn't make me sound like a total granola-munching bore - I think I have a pretty broad sense of humor, and I am all for an awesome cheeseburger and some good tequila. I have friends from all walks of life, and I have ample first-hand experience in the value of not judging others before walking a mile in their shoes.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I was having dinner with a Buddhist nun in the foothills of the Himalayas in Dharamsala as the sun set over a vast Indian plain, humbly and somewhat nervously listening to the lessons of this incredibly wise woman. I didn't think it could get any more surreal...until she farted. Loudly. I will never forget her laugh. This may have been the funniest thing to ever happen in my entire life.
Teach, Learn, Share
On a formal academic basis, I study life science these days, and I'm always down for a nerdy discussion of anything related to human health and physiology. I used to work in a recording studio in NYC, and produced my own music, so if you have audio questions/concerns, I can probably be of assistance. My 20+ years of basketball experience may also come in handy if you need help with your jumper or your crossover...
