Traveling the world!
I'm always open for new experiences and love doing spontaneous and crazy things. I would say in general I'm an optimistic person. Like most couchsurfers I love traveling. I like meeting new people and getting to know different cultures. (Obviously, as I'm an anthropologist ;) ). I'm creative and always have a bunch of good ideas, but I don't always take the time to realize them. I also enjoy organizing things - except with traveling, I love to travel without a plan and to decide where to go and what to do spontaneously.
I try to see always the good things in life and learn from every experience I make and every person I meet.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I like going to meetings, and sometimes organizing meetings too. I always enjoy hosting people, although unfortunately I get less requests since I don't live in the city center anymore. When I travel I always try to surf some couches to meet locals and get to know the local lifestyle.
I stayed at many couchsurfers' places and had amazing experiences. Most people have been so nice and hospitable! So many people told me such interesting life stories. I had several people showing me places that I would have never found without a local. I also had great experiences just hanging out with couchsurfers or having interesting discussions.
Hosting is lots of fun too, I enjoy just exchanging stories, hanging out, cooking together, or taking couchsurfers to places or bars I like.
I love watching movies and go regularly to short movie festivals. I made three documentaries on my own in Papua New Guinea. I also watch lots of documentaries (mostly on Arte, but also at Festivals, when they are around).
I'm very interested in all kind of artistic stuff, I like taking pictures, painting and drawing...
Dancing is one of my big passions, I started dancing at the age of 3 and did many years of ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance. Right now I'm only doing jazz and standard dance.
I also love hiking, sleeping outdoors, sitting next to a fire and listening to a guitar (sounds maybe kitsch, but I really enjoy that), cooking and eating, lying in a field and watching the clouds, well there are many things which make life worth living...
- ballet dancing
- outdoor activities
Music, Movies, and Books
There are far to many to list here... but I'll give you a small selection:
Frank Turner, Regina Spektor, John Vanderslice, Eddie Vedder, Bright Eyes, Eels, Angus and Julia Stone, The Postal Service, Frankie Stubbs, Tryo, Yann Tiersen, Guster, Chuck Ragan, Radiohead, Alexi Murdoch, etc.
I used to listen to Rise Against, Against me!, Hot Water Music, The Falcon, The Ghost, The Flatliners, Mad Caddies etc., but I guess I mellowed out a little and only listen to those bands out of nostalgia from time to time.
Away we go, Once, Garden State, Big Fish (and many other Tim Burton movies), Big Lebowski, Night on Earth, The Usual Suspects, Fight Club, Pan's Labyrinth, Requiem for a Dream, Stranger than Fiction, Hotel Rwanda, Inception, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Amélie Poulain, Leon der Profi, Les Choristes, The Lady, The Game, American History X, Back to the Future, Sin City, Lemony Snicket's A Series of the Unfortune Events, The Whole Nine Yards, A Clockwork Orange, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Little Miss Sunshine etc.
I also watch a lot of series, right now I enjoy Modern Family, Sherlock and Pretty Little Liars.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
One of the most amazing places I've seen is the Tavulvur Volcano in Rabaul (Papua New Guinea), there is an undescribable atmosphere in a desert of ashes. Cap de Creux in Spain is an amazing place at the sea with just one lighthouse and one small spanish taverne entoured by rocks and caves.
I watched a Rock concert in a small village in the middle of nowhere in the mountains of the Annapurna Region in Nepal.
When the water was so low, that it just disappeared at some places for some hours, I stood in the middle of the sea in the Ijsselmeer of the Netherlands, watching our boat lying on the ground.
I was swimming in a cold and clear river next to a waterfall in the jungle of Papua New Guinea.
I stayed with a traditional family in a small village in the middle of nowhere in Indonesia. I stood on a mountain in Slovenia and looked all the way down, an amazing landscape!
Beside that I love passing nights at the "Stausee" (a big lake) in Luxembourg, watching the lights of the villages reflecting in the water and the fog slowly coming up over the water enlighted by the moonlight.
Landscape wise I think the most beautiful places I have seen are Slovenia, New Zealand and the West Coast of Australia.
And there are so many other things which I could put on this list...one can never travel enough!!
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you to speak Luxembourgish (yes, that is a language!), to ride a unicycle, to cook banana omelettes, to draw with carbon. I can share lots of great music with you.
I would like to learn how to play on a djembé, to juggle and whatever interesting you can teach me.
