About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be brave enough to actually couch surf somewhere!

ABOUT ME

I tend to write an essay where other people write a sentence, so I will use bullet points to be more succinct.

Strengths:
Good sense of direction
Stands up to bullies
Willing to sacrifice time/effort/money for a friend or someone in need
Great hair
Fast reader
Not easily panicked
A good walker (though a bit slow due to my tiny legs)
Can sleep through almost anything
Open minded - endeavour to be, at least
Don't drink alcohol
Moderately proficient at small talk

Weaknesses:
Don't like food much
Don't like cooking or baking at all
Can't go to sleep with noise
Poor eyesight
Can get grumpy easily (mostly a weakness around family, not strangers)
Extremely uncomfortable/ (silently) judgemental around inebriation
Feel horribly awkward around people most of the time

PHILOSOPHY

Sometimes my personal philosophy is "I wish I was dead." Other times it's "should that be was or were?"

I have depression and that does a number on me sometimes. When it's lurking rather than looming, my philosophy is probably my high school motto (how embarrassing is that?): "seek the highest good". I'm Lawful Good by alignment and spend too much time worrying I'm not doing enough good in the world and then worrying that if I try to do good it might backfire.

When I'm not worrying, I try to find fun and joy in simple things that aren't likely to have negative consequences (like enjoying the sound of waves instead of snorting cocaine). I try my best to treasure other humans, and often fail.

Interests

My interests ebb and flow; usually once they've flown they don't come back again. But a few do.

Interests that come back:
Reading - Whatever stage of life in in, I usually read at least a blog post or article every day. When the reading really strikes I get twenty books out of the library and finish them all in a month.

Walking - Although I don't walk around my home town because I find it boring to look at, I do enjoy a good walk. I drive to places where I can't see or hear any sign of humans and wander around.

Shopping - I don't like spending money, but I like change. So I shop for clothes a lot. Mostly I just take pictures in the fitting room and occasionally look back at them and be glad I left the clothes behind, or decide I should've bought them.

Changing my hair - Yes, for me it's a hobby. Unlike clothing, where I am limited to dealing with climate and what I'll be doing every day, my hair can take almost any form without hindering me. So when I feel like a change, I cut or dye it. I've tried and failed to grow it.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: whoever you are, you will probably be aghast at my poor taste. To me, music is mostly something to dance to. Whether that's classical music or dubstep depends on my mood, but dancing is what I seek.

Movies: again with the poor taste. I like kids' animated movies, BBC's TV versions of Jane Austen's books and historical movies if they don't make me cry too much. I have a love/hate relationship with Doctor Who due to my desire for time travel and aliens to be real but my struggle with the Doctor's dark side, even as I applaud it for being realistic.

Books: well, Jane Austen; Tamora Pierce (Keladry is my moral role model); David Eddings; Terry Pratchett; Garth Nix; James Herriot; Philip Yancey; CS Lewis; Star Wars books; any book about cats; mostly fantasy as long as it's not too gory and horrible.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Tramping (hiking) for 18 hours in one day/night as a 9 year old. Probably wasn't amazing at the time, since we had lost the trail and had tramped all day and half the night and were tired and cold, but awesome later! I marvel at my perseverance at the time, especially since when we finally made it to the road I refused to sit and wait for my father to fetch the car and instead insisted that I walk the several kilometres to the car also.

I have since lost some of that perseverance because it was somewhat rooted in stubbornness and pride which I have tried to tone down, but I still like remembering that I'm capable of that.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to whistle using a blade of grass, what "mansplaining" and "intersectionality" mean (I'm a feminist of the "the patriarchy is bad for everyone, let's make life better for all people" kind), how to bleach and dye your hair, some very basic German, how to play the card game Mau and how to cartwheel.

I would like to learn more German, more Mandarin, how to surf and how much to tip people.
