Trying to become a more well-rounded individual. 日本語でこれを書けません。 :(
A college student from the U.S. who has forgotten all the Japanese he learned.
I'm still working it out, but I'm leaning towards being nice. Just working out how to best do that. I've recently become a lot more conscientious about using language that might be hurtful or exclusionary.
I also really love creative works, even though I have very little technical skill in most artistic endeavors. I think creativity is a necessary component of science, too. You need to be able to come up with solid ideas to test if you want your research to be fruitful.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I haven't done much of anything yet. Ask again in late August, perhaps?
I haven't couchsurfed at all! ぜんぜんCouchSurfしませんでした！
Reading, biology, science, video games, music (of all genres, excepting some really dissonant experimental stuff)
- working out
- video games
Music, Movies, and Books
Rodrigo y Gabriela, Ugress, Shadow of the Beat, David Arkenstone, Daft Punk, Beethoven, Parov Stelar, Jethro Tull, Gnarls Barkley, the lovely people at OCRemix, and many others.
Hot Fuzz, Aliens, Rashomon, Ring. Weird and/or low budget masterpieces like Versus, Zebra-Man, or Sharks in Venice. I also enjoy movies with people kicking one another, like Chocolate, Raging Phoenix, or Ong Bak.
The Culture novels by Iain M. Banks, Snow Crash (and various other Neal Stephenson), Gödel Escher Bach, Huckleberry Finn, The Lies of Locke Lamora, Good Omens (and various other Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett books), the Polity novels by Neal Asher (they're like Culture-lite!), Hyperion cantos. Even moreso than music, there are more others than I could reasonably list on this page. Those were just the ones that came to mind first.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Traveled in an airplane. Has it never occurred to you how absurd it is that you can climb in a narrow metal tube with some stubby little wings, and have it fling itself through the air with the power of fire and metal, delivering you safely halfway across the world?
Teach, Learn, Share
Gram staining bacteria.
Wait, that's not practical.
Writing essays in English, perhaps? I don't have much (read: any) grounding in fiction, but I read a lot. I could definitely suggest revisions on that sort of thing.
Or provide other help with the English language.
I can also make pizza dough on autopilot. In my own kitchen, at least. I make no guarantees about yours.
