Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'll be in NYC for my Anthropology Masters thesis fieldwork research. My thesis (in a nutshell) is about urban populations, how distinct cultural identities emerge, and the role that music plays in shaping these identities and forming group solidarity.

I'd rather experience the city through the eyes and hearts of the local people than through hotels and hostels. I want to learn about the city, it's diversity and hidden quirks, and the different ways that people relate to New York as both a geographical location and as an idea or imagined community. And I'd love to make some friends along the way :)
