About Me

***I can only host from Thursday until Sunday as my Monday-Thursday schedule is pretty hectic and makes it difficult to coordinate with guests. However, if you're in town outside of my available "hosting days," feel free to shoot me a message. We might be able to go for coffee, a drink, a walk around town...***

Self-understanding by de-Othering the Other.

I try to find the beauty in every person, and look forward to meeting and learning from people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Feel free to drop me a line, whether it's to request a couch, meet up for a drink, or just because something about my profile caught your eye! : )

The wise words of Coco Chanel sum it up well: "How many cares one loses when one decides not to be something but to be someone."

Don't put yourself in a box. We are all are three-dimensional, multi-faceted human beings with so much more to offer than labels can possibly describe. I try to balance the different aspects of my personality -- ambitious student, immigrant, queer, world citizen, human rights advocate, social butterfly, bookworm, crazy dance-partier ; ) -- without limiting myself to what any of those may mean and represent. I am who I am, and I'm alright with that.

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

I've hosted a few people, surfed many times, and basically spent an entire summer in Belgrade attending CS meet-ups, from dinner, to film screenings, Sava river rides and "pilgrimages" to Ada Ciganlija!

Eye-opening, engaging...both intellectually and socially stimulating!

TRAVEL, ballroom dance, foreign languages, fashion, ethnography, literature (particularly French, Japanese, Turkish and Moroccan).

Music, Movies & Books

Some of my favorite novelists/philosophers are Ryu Murakami, Haruki Murakami, Abdellah Taia, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Mohamed Choukri, Oscar Wilde, Orhan Pamuk and Michel Foucault, but I also love ethnographical litterature (Veiled Sentiments, Travesti, Death Without Weeping and Warring Souls are among my favorite works).

World music is an obsession, but not an exclusive one: Niyaz, Balkan Beat Box, Goran Bregovic, Alina Orlova, Hindi Zahra, Beats Antique, Santigold, FM Belfast, Retro Stefson, Gogol Bordello, Dubioza Kolektiv, Novalima, Soapkills, Mashrou3 Leila, Azealia Banks, MIA, Die Antwoord, Manu Chao

As for movies, PEDRO ALMODOVAR really tickles my pickle.

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Danced flamenco with gypsies in the caves at Sacromonte.
