ABOUT ME

I like books and travelling and sailing and cooking and running and people who love sports and also people who hate sports.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I was new to couchsurfing, I got all excited about it and couchsurfed twice, but then lost my couch and didn't travel for a while. In any event, I'm back now, and might even have a couch of my own soon. I love this community, and (insert cheesy instrumental music) how it brings together such a fantastic variety of people from all over the place, whose main intent is to slake their wanderlust while learning stuff and helping other people out in the process. It's like meeting that awesome stranger-who-becomes-your-informal-guide in a bar in a foreign city -- but to the nth degree.

Interests

Reading, bartending, running, skating, bouncing around, listening to live music.

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Saul Bellow and Mordecai Richler. Leonard Cohen. Any history of WWI or WWII. Zadie Smith. Yeats, Olena Davis, Alden Nowlan, Sharon Olds. The Hotel New Hampshire. I am terrible at making this list; I love 'em all. Currently reading "Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin." Also, children's books, of any & all descriptions.

I'd update this to say that right now I'm all about modern Greek poets, especially Seferis, and Indigenous Canadian lit, especially Thomas King. Some stuff on the history of U-boats. Some local Toronto memoir.

Music: Oh, this again - all of it, too. In the unexpected mood I was in when first filling this out, I'd most recently listened to early Beatles, Bach's WTC, the best of U2, Jacques Dutronc, Bruce Springsteen, Public Enemy, ? and the Mysterians, The Ronnettes, Sonic Youth.

At this precise moment, I'd probably say: Sam Cooke, Sharon Van Etten, Jonathan Byrd, The Specials, Georges Moustaki, Stiff Little Fingers, Biggie Smalls, Paul Simon, Jean LeLoup, The Stones, The Flaming Lips, Serge Gainsbourg. And always Leonard Cohen.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

This is a difficult question. Sunrise in Algonquin Park or on Lake Huron is pretty sweet, mind you.

Teach, Learn, Share

I am good with alphabets and frying pans.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A few crazy stories, my love of languages, cooking tips, funtimes in Toronto..
