About Me

I'm a recent graduate (well, I will be on December 21!) who is starting a second AmeriCorps term in Montana. Previously I served with the US Forest Service in Bozeman, and now I will be serving with the Blackfeet ARMP in Browning.
I love to travel and love to get outdoors hiking, backpacking, climbing, you name it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on Couchsurfing because I'm having trouble finding housing around Browning. As an AmeriCorps member I will live off of a relatively small stipend so commuting long distances (especially in Winter) is not viable. So in the interim, until I can find housing, I'm hoping to couch surf; I've been told housing should open up a bit in December/January so fingers crossed!

But in addition (more importantly? and especially in such a small community) I'm really hoping to meet people and start to get a sense of community. My favorite memory of traveling was staying with an amazing Airbnb host from Japan in the Netherlands. Ms. Michiko taught me a lot about her own Japanese culture as well as that of the Netherlands, and shared so many wonderful stories of her own travels. Amsterdam was amazing but befriending Ms. Michiko was far and above more valuable than my time spent in the area.

Music, Movies, and Books

My Spotify Wrapped says my favorite music is "Indie Pop" which I'd say is accurate. My favorite bands are Summer Salt, Tipling Rock, Still Woozy, Two Door Cinema Club, and Her's.

I'm a big fan of Quentin Tarantino movies, but in general I really like thrillers like The Shining or action movies like The Departed.

My favorite author is John Steinbeck, and my favorite books are The Shining, Life of Pi, and White Fang.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've snorkeled in between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates in Iceland. We swam in between a 10 foot wide fissure and through crystal clear water - it was amazing.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a lot of experience in the backcountry backpacking/camping and I love to talk or teach people skills or take them on their first trip. Also, I have rowed since highschool and have been an assistant coach for the Penn State Crew team for a year and a half - I love love love crew and am always happy to teach people about such an incredible sport!

I would love to learn about the area. Super broad, I know, but I grew up in the DC area so to me even Bozeman is small; 400-1,500 people is super small!

I'm always happy to share travel stories. I've been to a few countries abroad and was fortunate to go on a long roadtrip this summer from Bozeman to Boulder to Moab to Zion to Albuquerque and on home doing plenty of camping and climbing along the way.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook, and would be happy to cook meals for you. I'm vegan, too, so if you're looking to try some new foods I'd be more than happy to!
