To try everything at least twice.
I am pretty outgoing; I enjoy striking up conversations with strangers and love making new friends. I love the mysteries of life and love connecting people, ideas, thoughts. Learning, finding the meaning, having new experiences, learning to trust and believe, learning boundaries, just everything that goes along with experiencing life. If there is meaning I will find it.
I love to try new things. Someone told me it was very "Sag" of me. That is short for Sagittarius. I also love Astrology. I love having new experiences. I crave them and find I feel really trapped and stagnant when I don't have them. These experiences could be anything from going to a party with new people to falling in love with someone to having a great adventure. In my mind it is always an adventure. I balance this with much needed quiet/alone time. If you're into astrology I can tell you what my chart says about this. Actually, maybe you can tell me!
I work full-time doing office/administrative/personal assistant work in midtown Manhattan. I really like my job. It isn't one of those things that was my dream and I'm not always sure how long I will stay but I cannot deny the fact that it is still a great gig and that it has taught me a lot about myself. I'm reading the book "Vagabonding" which is also helping me with my perspective on work.
I am pretty independent and I'm really proud of that fact. It is important to me to shed outdated beliefs and really figure out what is important to me, what is mine as opposed to what someone has handed to me and I have blindly accepted. My goal is to be a conscious participant in my life, and conscious of that consciousness. lol.
I live my life searching for meaning in the mundane. My flight gets cancelled, I wanna know what I can learn from that. I get into a fight with my sister, I need to know what I am supposed to be doing and how this can help me grow and change. I try to accept the fact that sometimes shit just happens but I always have the power to change my own perspective and attitude. This becomes easier as I get older...:) My goal is to have compassion for everyone and respect where everyone is coming from. This requires a LOT of contemplation and tolerance on my part, and I'm now learning, communication. Basically, I live, I experience, and ideally I am ALWAYS learning.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I have hosted a handful of Couchsurfers and couchsurfed for 6 nights with two separate hosts in PR.
Hosted a few people and couchsurfed in Puerto Rico. Pretty awesome experience all around. Love the waft of adventure travelers bring in with them. Loved the hospitality of my hosts. Feel like I have made solid friendships.
I'm basically interested trying anything (within reason). I am a member of a few Meetup.com groups here in NY. A few for hiking and one for Astrology. I have done some performing: acting, comedic improv, burlesque. I love yoga, Astrology, anything spiritual, music, film, meeting new people, spending time vegging alone in my apartment, keeping busy, thinking about what I'm going to try next. I've often been told that I am like a child (hopefully just in terms of curiosity and not in terms of emotional maturity!).
Music, Movies, and Books
I really like film. My last roommate, with whom I lived seven years, is a filmmaker and living with him really opened my mind to the world of film. I basically like anything: Feel-good movies are cool (Steel Magnolias, Muriel's Wedding, the one about the Ya-Ya's). Over the top foreign films like Pedro Almodovar's films (specifically Talk to Her and Dark Habits). I like films that question/poke fun at the status quo like A Dirty Shame, SLC Punk. I also like kids films like The Last Mimzy and The Fantastic Mr. Fox. Indies, some blockbusters (specifically the new Batman films), um...Shortbus, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Stardust, The Men Who Stare at Goats, Some Like it Hot, the Decalogue...I just watched Amour. Beautiful, if also depressing.
Lately I have been listening to Ani Difranco, The Black Keys, CocoRosie, Tori Amos, some Kate Bush and some classical.
I like novels, books on astrology, books on loving myself, books on seemingly useless information that is just fun to know. I'd rather talk about everything in this box in person than just creating lists but for the purpose of giving you an overview of what kind of person I am...The Namesake, A Fine Balance, Kitchen, Malcolm Gladwell, Iyanla Vanzant, Kurt Vonnegut, books on travel!, Persepolis, The 7 Habits of Highly Successful People, The 4 Hour Workweek (aka the Dream), Salt by Mark Kurlansky, Tina Fey's Bossypants...Love to read.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hiked up an active volcano in Guatemala! I literally thought my shoes were going to melt off!
Traveled alone to Guatemala! Greatest experience of my life and looking to have more like it!
Learned how to swim in Flores, Guatemala!
Was nearly kidnapped in Cambodia!
Before I learned how to swim I went windsurfing in Sardinia, Italy.
Went to Burning Man which was terrifying.
Broke an arrow with my neck.
Solo travel in general (I'm learning this is amazing bc not so many people do it).
Jumped out of a perfectly good aircraft for kicks.
Fallen in love!
Hiking is always amazing to me.
Every time I do something I've always wanted to do I feel I have accomplished something amazing.
